VETERANS DAY PROGRAM TAKING PLACE THURSDAY NOV. 11 AT THE GOLDEN LINK IN CROOKSTON

The Crookston American Legion, VFW, DAV and Auxiliaries, the Yellow Ribbon Committee, and Cathedral School Choir will present a Veterans Day Program this week, on Thursday, November 11 at 11:00 a.m. at the Golden Link in Crookston. Veterans Day is a federal holiday observed in the United States every November 11, honoring all U.S. Military Veterans.

Margee Keller is helping run the program this year, and she talked about how the event came to be and gave some background. “How it came about and why we chose 11:00 a.m. is because major hostilities of the war were won in the eleventh hour of the eleventh day in the eleventh month in 1918,” said Keller. “From there, it’s been called Veterans Day ever since 1954, and we feel it should be celebrated every year.”

A free lunch of Sloppy Joe’s and fries will be provided for all veterans, and there will be a Veteran’s Day Supper from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. later that night, which will include meatballs, mashed potatoes, gravy, green beans, bun, dessert, coffee, and water.

The program will begin promptly at 11:00 a.m., and Keller talked about what will be featured during this year’s program. “The program other than the songs is about 15-20 minutes long,” said Keller. “Each organization provides some readings, and then we provide some wreaths for each organization to then display in honor of all the veterans.”

Keller said everyone from the community is invited to come out and enjoy the program. “Everyone from the community is invited to come out and enjoy the program,” said Keller. “Then afterward, the free lunch for the veterans will be provided, and pre-registration is not required for that event. We do ask that you pre-register for supper at 5:30 p.m. that night, and if you want to do the drive-by curbside option, also to let us know that as well.”

Registration for supper is necessary by Tuesday, November 9, by 3:00 p.m. You can register by calling the Golden Link at 218-281-3072. You can also contact the Golden Link for more information or if you have any more questions.
