Virginia “Ginny” A. Skalsky – Obit

Virginia “Ginny” A. Skalsky, 86, Thief River Falls, MN, formerly of Ada, MN, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 27, 2021, at Sanford Hospital in Thief River Falls.

Virginia “Ginny” Anne Cross was born in Elk River, MN on August 22, 1934, to Harold and Elvie Cross. They moved to Wisconsin for a few years before moving to Moorhead and then Borup, MN, where she attended school and graduated from Borup High School in 1951.

Ginny was united in marriage to Vernon “Vernie” Lester Skalsky on October 23, 1951, at Winchester Lutheran Church in Borup.

Ginny worked for Parkers Jewelry for one year and then Aalgaard Studio until June of 1955. She was a farm wife and raised four boys, Rick, Kenny, Bruce, and David. She cooked for many farmworkers for several years. In later years, she worked at the City Clerk office in Ada, Sjordahl Hardware, Engelhardt Drug, Ralph’s Food Pride, and last, Candy’s Drug. Ginny taught Sunday school and later Wednesday school. She was an LDR member when she was first married and later was an ALC member. She was also an active member of Grace Lutheran Church in Ada and served as secretary for their Ladies Aid. Ginny was a member of the Homemakers Club and was chosen as runner up for Homemaker of the Year. She was also a part of the Sunshine Club, as well as the Good Will Club where she was an officer at various times. She very much enjoyed water aerobics and would take part as often as she could.

Vernie and Ginny celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary in 2016. They spent their last years at Valley Home Assisted Living and Memory Care in Thief River Falls, MN, where Ginny served as secretary for the resident council. Ginny most recently resided at Oakland Park Nursing Home in Thief River Falls.

Ginny is survived by her four sons, Rick (Connie), Minot, ND, Kenny (Sue), Powell, WY, Bruce (DelRae), St. Hilaire, MN, and David (Jana Lindsey), Williston, ND; brother, Russell Cross; sisters, Carol Lampman, and Elsie Daleiden; sister in law, Nonie Skalsky; 11 grandchildren, Carmen (Omar) Callazo, FL, Courtney Skalsky, TX, Caylee (Chris) Debruyn, TX, Jory Skalsky, West Fargo, ND, Jalyssa (Adam) Sorenson, West Fargo, ND, Jessica (JW) Heny, Powell, WY, Joey (Erica) Skalsky, Powell, WY, Zachary (Lorrisa) Skalsky, St. Hilaire, MN, Joshua (Michelle) Skalsky, St. Hilaire, MN, Isaac (Ashley) Skalsky, St. Hilaire, MN, and Ann Skalsky, St. Hilaire, MN; 11 great grandchildren, James, Jenna, Ellie, Nora, Restan, Emrys, Sola, Job, Shem, Rose, and Coleson, with another great grandchild on the way; and many nieces and nephews.

Ginny is preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Elvie; husband, Vernon Skalsky; and sister, Louise.

Funeral Service: 3:30 PM, Thursday, April 1, 2021, at Grace Lutheran Church, Ada, MN, following all of the Minnesota and CDC COVID-19 social distancing guidelines. All must wear a mask to attend.

Visitation: A walk-through visitation will take place from 1:30 PM to 3:30 PM, Thursday, April 1, 2021, at Grace Lutheran Church in Ada.

Interment: Ada Municipal Cemetery, Ada, MN.
