WADENA-DEER CREEK CRUISES TO A VICTORY OVER PIRATE GIRLS BASKETBALL

The Crookston Pirate Girls Basketball team struggled offensively for the second straight game and was only able to score 30 points as the Wadena-Deer Creek Wolverines used a big run in each half to cruise to a 64-30 victory in a Section 8AA matchup at the Crookston High School Gymnasium. 

FIRST HALF-
The teams battled back and forth early on with ties at 4, 6, 8, and 10. Crookston actually led 10-8 when Wadena-Deer Creek went on a 9-0 run with a three-pointer from Addyson Gravelle, and a basket apiece from Kennedy Ness, Lola Pulver, and Payton Gravelle for a 17-10 lead with 6:07 left in the half.
Crookston’s Joey Nesseth stopped the run with a basket in the paint, only to have the Wolverines respond with four more points for a 22-12 lead. Chlor Boll answered with a layup for Crookston before WDC scored five points for a 27-14 lead with 62 seconds remaining. Crookston’s Chloe Boll finished the half with a basket, and Wadena-Deer Creek led 27-16 going into halftime.

SECOND HALF –
Crookston scored the first basket of the half when Naomi Johnson scored, but Wadena-Deer Creek scored the next six points for a 33-18 lead. Halfway through the half, Wadena-Deer Creek led 43-26 when they went on a 17-0 run over a five-minute span to take a 60-26 lead with under three minutes remaining in the game. Both teams went to the bench, and all players who dressed were able to play, as Wadena-Deer Creek won 64-30.

Crookston drops to 3-17 on the year and will host #10 ranked Pelican Rapids on Thursday. Wadena-Deer Creek improves to 13-8 on the year.
