WARREN-ALVARADO-OSLO BOYS BASKETBALL FALLS TO BLACKDUCK 81-69

Win-E-Mac’s Courneya brothers combined for 56 points as the Warren-Alvarado-Oslo Ponies Boys Basketball team fell to the Patriots 81-69 at the Northern Blast Classic at the Ralph Englestad Arena.

FIRST HALF-
The game started with Win-E-Mac’s Joe Courneya hitting a three-pointer on the first possession. Warren-Alvarado-Oslo responded with a 6-0 run, including a lay-up from Dustin Moehrle and a pair of buckets from Kaden Pierce, to give the Ponies a 6-3 lead. Win-E-Mac tied it up at 6-6 before Moehrle made a put-back to tie the game up at 8-8. Win-E-Mac scored two straight buckets shortly after before the Ponies went on a 6-0 run, including a three-pointer by Reed Hanson 5:00 into the half, to make it 14-12 Warren-Alvarado-Oslo.
Win-E-Mac’s Justin Courneya scored a lay-up to tie the game at 14-14. The Ponies responded with a 6-0 run, including Adam McIntyre making two lay-ups, to make it 20-14. This proved to be Warren-Alvarado-Oslo’s biggest lead of the game as the Patriots went on a 15-0 run to take a 29-20 lead with less than seven minutes remaining in the half.
Warren-Alvarado-Oslo’s Pierce hit a jumper to end the Win-E-Mac run, and the game was back-and-forth for the next two minutes. Pierce hit a lay-up with 4:35 remaining in the game to cut the deficit to 33-29. Win-E-Mac spent the last four minutes of the half on a 13-0 run, including two straight three-pointers from Joe Courneya, and the Ponies were trailing 46-29 at the break.

SECOND HALF –
Warren-Alvarado-Oslo started the second half on a 6-0 run, including a Hanson floater and a Pierce lay-up, to cut the deficit to 46-35. The next three minutes of the game saw Win-E-Mac score six of the following eight points with free throws before McIntyre completed an and-one to make the score 52-39 five and a half minutes into the half.
Win-E-Mac made two straight three-pointers to make it 58-39 before Pierce made a jumper and a three-pointer to make the score 58-44 seven minutes into the half. The game became back-and-forth for the next two minutes, as the Ponies made four free throws to make it 65-48 Patriots.
Warren-Alvarado-Oslo’s McIntyre scored a lay-up before Win-E-Mac’s Joe Courneya hit a three-pointer to make it 68-52 with eight minutes to go. The game became back-and-forth for the next couple of minutes, with Pierce driving into the paint for a lay-up and Derek Moehrle hitting a three-pointer to make the score 73-57 with six minutes to go.
Scoring went quiet for both teams over the next minute until Pierce hit a jumper to make it 73-59 with five minutes to go. Win-E-Mac responded with a Joe Courneya three-pointer to make it 76-59. The rest of the game was back-and-forth, with most of Win-E-Mac’s points coming from free throws. Pierce was able to hit a three toward the end of the game, but the Patriots won the game 81-69.

Warren-Alvarado-Oslo falls to 3-3 on the season and takes on Kittson County Central on Monday. Win-E-Mac improves to 5-2 on the season and takes on Climax-Fisher on Tuesday.
