Sacred Heart Eagles Boys Basketball uses runs to beat Warren-Alvarado-Oslo

The Sacred Heart Eagles started the game on a 10-0 run and used an 11-0 run in the second half as well to beat the Warren-Alvarado-Oslo Ponies 76-59 in a Section 8A matchup at the WAO High School gymnasium in Warren.

FIRST HALF –
Sacred Heart had a great start to the game as they scored the first 10 points of the game with Jacob Ortiz scoring four points and two points apiece from Nathan Kaiser, Caleb Ihry, and Gabe LeTexier. WAO responded with a seven point run with Ethan Ellerbusch making a three-pointer four minutes into the game for the first Pony points and a basket each from Sidney Carlson and Noah Dvorak to get within a 10-7 deficit.
The game of runs continued as Sacred Heart scored the next seven points with Ihry scoring four and Ortiz adding three points for a 17-7 lead with 8:03 to go in the half. WAO answered with a 10-2 run with a Sebastian Johnson three-pointer and after an Eagle basket, Kyden Kotrba buried a three-pointer and baskets from Dvorak and Ellerbusch to get within a 19-17 deficit with six minutes left in the half.
Sacred Heart took a 12-point lead after a Gabe LeTexier three-point play and the teams would exchange baskets the rest of the half and Sacred Heart took a 39-29 lead into halftime.

SECOND HALF –
WAO scored the first four points of the half with baskets from Dvorak and Sedlacek to get within a 39-33 deficit. Sacred Heart answered with seven straight points with five coming from Kaiser and a basket from LeTexier to take a 46-33 lead three minutes into the half. WAO’s Ellerbusch answered with three points before Sacred Heart went on an 11-0 run over a two minute span. The Eagles’ Ihry scored six points, Nick Satterlund added three, and Kaiser added a basket for a 57-36 lead with 12 minutes left in the game.
The teams played evern the ret of the way as neither team was able to put a large run together and both teams went to the bench late in the game as Sacred Heart cruised to a 76-59 victory.

Sacred Heart improves to 1-1 on the year. WAO drops to 1-1 on the year.
