WARREN-ALVARADO-OSLO SHUTOUT BY GOODRIDGE-GRYGLA IN SECTION SEMI-FINAL 20-0

The Warren-Alvarado-Oslo Ponies battled the Goodridge/Grygla Chargers on Saturday night in the Section 8 9-Man Semifinals. The Ponies offense stalled out, and Goodridge-Grygla took advantage, as the Chargers shoutout the Ponies. It was the first time all season the Ponies were kept off the scoreboard, and it came at the worst possible time, to end their season with a 20-0 loss in a game played in Warren.

1st Quarter
The Chargers would start off with a great kickoff return down to the W-A-O 30 yard line. On 2nd and 8, Kehan Nelson would get a 14 yard gain down to the Ponies 15 yard line. Matte Busse would get a 3 yard gain up the middle, followed up by a Ponies false start, to make it 2nd and 2. The quarterback Blake Rychlock would keep it for another first down to the 4 yard line. On first and goal, Busse would run a sweep to the right, and W-A-O would stop him up in for a loss of 1 and brings up 2nd and goal. A false start on Goodridge-Grygla would make it a 2nd and goal from the 10. Kehan Nelson would get the ball to the 5 yard line for 3rd and from the 5 yard line. Another offsides brings the ball down to the 2 yard line. A quarterback sneak from Rychlock would only get a gain of 1 for 4th and goal from the 1-yard line. The Chargers would go back to Rychlock for another sweep and this time would make it into the endzone to make it 6-0. A fake point after attempt would be successful for the Chargers to make it 8-0 with 7:42 left in the first quarter. On the kickoff, the Ponies would try to do a reverse on the return, but the ball was fumbled on the handoff between Ponies and Goodridge-Grygla’s Kehan Nelson would
recover the kickoff on the W-A-O 33 yard line. The Charger’s run game would find no success to start this drive, and they found themselves with a 3rd and 11. Blake Rychlock to Lewis Jones for a 12 yard reception for the first down on the Ponies 21 yard line. On first down, Rychlock would be tripped up in the backfield to make it 2nd and 11 with 6:00 minutes to go in the quarter. Matt Busse would get a run to the left side for 2 yards making it 3rd and 9. Rychlock would drop back and find Kaylor Torgerson for another first down. On first and goal from the 7 yard line. On first and goal, the Ponies would get to the backfield to make it 2nd and goal from the 9. W-A-O’s Mason Woinarawicz into the backfield again and bring down Rychlock for a sack. A holding penalty would be declined and it’s 4th and goal from the 21 yard line. A little trickery from Goodridger-Grygla would get a fake pitch to the left, and Rychlock would throw a screen to the right and the Chargers would get down to the 4 yard line. It would be a turnover on downs as W-A-O would take over on their own 4 yard lines. The Ponies would get a couple runs for gains of 3 and 2 yards. On 3rd and 5 Tyson Mortimer would be met the the Goodridge-Grygla line for a run of no gain. Tyson Mortimer would then punt for the Ponies for 35 yards. The Chargers start on the Ponies 44 yard line. Matt Busse would get the ball up the middle for a gain of 3. Lewis Jones then gets the ball for a run to the right side of a gain of 2 to make it 3rd and 5. The quarter would end 8-0 in favor of Goodridge-Grygla.

2nd Quarter
On 3rd on 5, the Chargers would get a false start to make it 3rd and 10 from 33 yard line. The next play would be a run to Matt Busse would be canceled out due to a holding penalty against the Chargers to make it 3rd and 20. Rychlock would go to throw to Lewis Jones that would fall incomplete. A defensive pass interference would be called on W-A-O to make it 3rd and 5. Rychlock would go to Jones again in the air but his reception was called out of bounds to make it 4th and 4 with 11:30 left in the half. The Chargers 4ht down attempt would have another Rychlock pass fall incomplete to turnover the ball on downs. The Ponies take over on their own 29 yard line. The Ponies would go to Tyson Mortimer for a gain of 3 yards. The Chargers would then line up over the line for an encroachment penalty to make it 2nd and 2. The Chargers would stand up big at the line for a stop on the run to make it 3rd and 3. A holding penalty would bring the ponies back to 3rd and 14 on their own 25 yard line. In the next play, a Kaden Pierce pass would go out of bounds to force W-A-O to punt. Tyson Mortimer’s 55 yard punt would have the Chargers start on their own 35 yard line. A Matt Busse would get the direct snap for a gain of 5 yards to make it 2nd and 5 with 9:00 minutes left. Busse would get in again for another gain of 5 for the first down. The Ponies would jump offsides on first down to make it 1st and 5 on the 50 yard line. Kehan Nelson would get the ball up the middle for a 4 yard gain to make it 2nd and 1. Blake Rychlock’s quarterback sneak would get a gain of 1 for the first down. The Chargers would go back to Rychlock for a run, this time for a gain of 6 yards. Busse would get the ball for a short gain of 1 yard after Mason Woinarowicz gets in the stop. On the next play, it was Jackson Woinarwoicz making the stop in the backfield to make it 4th and 4. Rychlock would drop back, avoiding the Ponies, and get the ball to Matt Busse. Busse would get past a couple of Ponies to get the first down to the W-A-O 33 yard line. with 3:45 left in the half. Busse would get a pitch to the right side for a gain of 2 to make it 2nd and 7. The Chargers would go to reverse to Nelson, but the Ponies would not fall for the misdirection for a loss of 1. On 3rd and 8, the Charger’s would go back to the air, but once again Lewis Jones would catch the ball out of bounds to make it 4th and 8. The W-O-A’s Mason Woinarowicz would get to Blake Rychlock again to force a turnover on downs. The Ponies take over with 3:00 minutes left in the half from their own 35 yard line. The Ponies would go to the ground again with runs of 2, 0, and 2 yards. A false start on 4th and 1 would make the Ponies punt. Tyson Mortimer would get a 33 yard punt to the Chargers’ 37 yard line with 1:07 left in the game. Lewis Jones would get a gain of 2 yards, and Goodridge

3rd Quarter
The Ponies would get the ball to start the half on their own 40 yard line after the kickoff would go out of bounds. W-A-O would go deep on their first play of the half, and Kaden Pierce’s throw would go short and be intercepted by Matt Busse for the Chargers. Goodridge-Grygla would then march down the field and Matt Busse would get his first score of the game to make it 14-0. On the 2-point conversion, W-A-O would stand up Blake Rychlock and it would stay 14-0 with 7:56 left in the quarter., The Ponies’ offensive issues would continue with the next drive, with yet another three-and-out. Neither team would score for the remainder of the quarter, and it would end with the Chargers up 14-0.

4th Quarter
The Goodridge-Grygla would continue to dominate on the offensive side of the ball. The Ponies wouldn’t do themselves any favors, with a couple of offsides penalties and the Chargers would take advantage to run down the field and cap off their drive with another 3 yard run from Matt Busse to make it 20-0. Another failed 2-point conversion would keep it at 20-0 with 5:34 left in the game. W-A-O would get the ball back after a nice return by Jacob Rodriguez. The Ponies’ would once again be stalled out, and would be forced to punt once again. Goodridge-Grygla would get the ball back, but with a three-score lead, were more conservative with their play calling. Keeping the ball on the ground, and continuing to run down the clock. The Ponies’ defense would get a stop and force a turnover on downs with less than two minutes left in the game. The Ponies would try and get on the scoreboard, but their offensive woes continued and the long ball was not connecting for the Ponies and the game would end with a score of 20-0 in favor of Goodridge-Grygla.

Warren-Alvarado-Oslo ends their season 8-2. They will say goodbye to an excellent class of 13 seniors. Goodridge-Grygla improves to 8-2 and will face the Kittson-County-Central Bearcats in the Fargodome next Thursday with a trip to the State Tournament on the line.
