WARREN-ALVARADO-OSLO VOLLEYBALL BEATS CROOKSTON IN THREE SETS

The Crookston Pirate Volleyball team hosted Warren-Alvarado-Oslo Ponies at the Crookston High School Gymnasium. The Ponies had a strong showing in the first two sets, and after a close third set, they took the match 3-0 (25-16, 25-12, 25-22)

FIRST SET
Warren-Alvarado-Oslo began the first set by winning six of the first seven points, including kills from Reegan Mortimer and Hannah Pederson. Crookston responded with a 4-0 run, which featured Kristine Bernd getting three straight aces. The Ponies went on a 4-0 run, with Oberg getting an ace. The following six points were back and forth to make it 13-9. Warren-Alvarado went on another 4-0 run, capped off by a Danielle Michalski kill. It was back and forth for a few points before Emma LaPlante got a kill to make it 20-13 Ponies. Mortimer responded with a kill to make it 21-13. The rest of the set was back and forth, but Warren-Alvarado-Oslo pulled away and won the first set 25-16.

SECOND SET
The second set was tied at one and two before Warren-Alvarado-Oslo went on a 3-0 run. LaPlante ended the run with a kill before Mortimer responded with a kill. Crookston’s Naomi Johnson got two straight kills to make it 8-5. The following few points were back and forth, with Johnson getting a kill for Crookston and Mortimer getting a kill for the Ponites. Tatiana got a kill to make the score 13-7 Warren-Alvarado-Oslo. Crookston won the next point before the Ponies went on a 3-0 run to make it 16-8. Joey Nesseth got a kill to end that run before Warren-Alvarado-Oslo started another 5-0 run. The last few points were back and forth, including Nesseth getting another kill to make it 22-12, but the Ponies ended the set on a 3-0 run, capped off with a Mortimer kill. Warren-Alvarado-Oslo took the second set by a score of 25-12, giving them a 2-0 match lead.

THIRD SET
The third set started with Warren-Alvarado-Oslo winning three of the first four points. LaPlante got a kill, and Crookston tied it up at 4-4. It was tied up at five and six before the Ponies went on a 4-0 run to make it 10-6. The Pirates responded with a 4-0 run to tie it up at 10-10. It was back and forth, tied at 11, 12, and 13. Danielle Michalski got a kill that started a 3-0 run for Warren-Alvarado-Oslo. Crookston responded with a 3-0 run of their own, including an ace from LaPlante to tie it up at 16. It was tied at 17 and 18 before the Ponies won the following two points to make it 20-18. Crookston won the next point before Warren-Alvarado-Oslo went on a 3-0 run to make it 23-19. Crookston went on a 3-0 run to bring it within one point before the Ponies won the last two points to take the third set 25-22 and win the match 3-0.

Crookston falls to 2-17 on the season and hosts Norman County East/Ulen-Hitterdal on Friday. Warren-Alvarado-Oslo improves to 6-15 and takes on Kittson County Central on Friday.
