Washington School stresses the importance of routine and offers great gift ideas for children and families

November was a full month of learning and activities for Washington School. Washington sent out its monthly newsletter, and KROX is excited to highlight some of the things that have happened and are happening in Washington.

The Washington School Read-a-Thon fundraiser was held November 11th — 22nd, sponsored by the Parent Teacher Organization (PTO). Reading with your child every day is so important! This fundraiser is also important to our school because the donations will help provide classroom educational materials. Students enjoyed special-themed days and reading ‘everywhere.’ Students were able to log their reading minutes on the Read-a-thon website. Students logged 23,970 minutes of reading in the classroom and with their families during the 2-week event!! Donations to date total $3,005!

Washington also wants to thank area businesses that supported the Read-a-thon for their donations and the Highland PTO members Lorri Capistran and Mari-Anne Isaacs, whose hard work made the Read-a-Thon possible.

ECFE Grandparents Night was a success this year, as it has been in the past. “The More We Get Together, The Happier We’ll Be, Grandma, Grandpa and Me!!” The smiles on many faces proved the theme of this popular annual event! Over 130 grandparents and grandchildren explored classrooms at Washington School, shared hands-on projects, and enjoyed story time together!

Washington wants to remind families about the importance of establishing family routines. Doing so provides children with a sense of security and ownership. Routines should be used at the beginning of the day, at meal times, to put toys away, and at the end of the day to teach children how to take turns. Daily routines and regular traditions help children understand what will happen next and know their daily responsibilities. Children are more likely to cooperate when routines are used in daily schedules.
