SACRED HEART SOFTBALL NO-HITS WEST MARSHALL IN 16-2 VICTORY

The Sacred Heart Eagles scored eight runs in the first inning and didn’t allow a hit as they cruised to a 16-2 victory over the West Marshall Fusion in a Section 8A game played on a rainy, windy, and cold afternoon in Warren.

First Inning-
Rain seemed to cause a lot of control problems in the first inning. Sacred Heart scored eight runs in the inning while taking advantage of five hit batters and five walks in the inning. Jillian Pulkabek had a RBI double to score the first run of the game; the next run was scored on an error. Two more runs scored on hit batters before Bella Effhauser singled in two more runs for a 6-0 lead. A run scored on a wild pitch, and the eighth run scored on a bases loaded walk, and the Eagles took an 8-0 lead in the first inning.
West Marshall’s first two batters grounded out. The next five batters were hit by a pitch. One run scored on a wild pitch and another run scored on a bases loaded hit batter to bring the Fusion within a 8-2 deficit.

Second Inning-
Sacred Heart’s Sophia Modeen led off the second inning with a single and a stolen base, but the next two batters were retired. After Effhauser was hit by a pitch, the next batter struck out.
The three West Marshall batters all struck out in the inning and the Fusion were retired in 1-2-3 fashion.

Third Inning-
The first Sacred Heart batter was retired before Pulkrabek doubled before Teegan Johnson and Izzy Cwikla were hit by a pitch. Modeen reached on an error that allowed two runs to score. Another run scored on a wild pitch, and the fourth run of the inning scored on an error for a 12-2 lead.
West Marshall was retired in 1-2-3 fashion in the bottom of the inning.

Fourth Inning-
Sacred Heart added another run in the fourth inning when Lily Mueller was hit by a pitch, and Pulkrabek singled. After an Eagle strike out, the ball was in the dirt, the catcher threw down to first base, and Mueller stole home on the throw to first base for a 13-2 lead.
West Marshall was retired in 1-2-3 fashion.

Fifth Inning-
Sacred Heart led off the inning with a ground out only to have Audrey Anderson double, Effhauser singled, and Sundby was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Two runs scored on an error, and another run scored on a wild pitch for a 16-2 lead.
In the bottom of the inning, the first Fusion batter struck out before Charlotte Rogus was walked. The next batter hit a line drive back at the pitcher Pulkrabek, and she caught the ball and threw the ball to second base to get a double play, and Sacred Heart won the game 16-2 in five innings.

Sacred Heart improves to 3-1 on the year, while West Marshall drops to 0-2.
