WEST MARSHALL’S OBERG PITCHES THE FUSION TO A WIN OVER KCC BASEBALL

The West Marshall Fusion got a tremendous pitching performance from Demetrius Oberg and the offense pounded out 10 hits on their way to an 8-1 victory over the Kittson County Central Bearcats in a loser-out game in the Section 8A Baseball tournament in Greenbush.  

After two scoreless innings, West Marshall broke the game open in the top of the third inning.  Will McGlynn led off with a walk, and after an out, Demetrius Oberg was hit by a pitch before Aiden Anderson crushed a pitch over the leftfield fence to give the Fusion a 3-0 lead. 

West Marshall expanded the lead in the top of the fourth inning when Derek Moerhle reached on a walk.  Nick Winge singled, Will McGlynn reached on a fielder’s choice, and runners were at the corners.  McGlynn Stole second base, and Moehrle scored on a Jackson Kekke ground out for a 4-0 lead.  Oberg helped his cause with a single to score another run for a 5-0. lead.

West Marshall added three more runs in the top of the fifth inning when the Fusion started the inning with base hits from Carson Safranski, Jackson Woinarowicz, and Ty Winge to load the bases.  Moerhle followed with a single to score two runs for a 7-0 lead.  Nick Winge walked and another run scored on an error for an 8-0 lead.

In the bottom of the seventh inning, Kittson County Central finally got on the board with an Evan Austad double, a Carter Larson single, and Austad scored on a ground out, but it wasn’t enough as West Marshall held on to win 8-1.

West Marshall improves to 11-7 on the year and will play Norman County East/Ulen Hitterdal in a loser-out game at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday at Thief River Falls.
