WINJUM AND BOLL LEAD CROOKSTON GIRL’S BASKETBALL PAST BAGLEY 67-29

The Crookston Pirate Girl’s Basketball team got 32 first half points from Halle Winjum and Chloe Boll, and used a big run from the end of the first half into the second half, to cruise to a 67-29 win over the Bagley Flyers on Friday night.

FIRST HALF –
The Pirates got off to a slow start, and Bagley took a 3-0 lead. Crookston would get their offense going with a spark from Chloe Boll off the bench, knocking down a three, and she and Halle Winjum would combine for 10 points to give the Pirates a 10-3 lead, forcing a Flyers timeout with 11:54 remaining in the half. The two teams traded some baskets the next few minutes, and the Flyers would pull within four points with a 7-0 run cutting the Pirates lead to 18-14. Crookston would break the game open ending the first half on a 19-3 run in the final five minutes to take a 37-17 lead into the halftime break. It started with Halle Winjum scoring 9 straight points, and then Chloe Boll would convert two more three-pointers late in the half as well. Winjum and Boll combined for 32 of the teams 37 first-half points, and the Pirates were able to knock down six threes against the Flyers 2-3 zone after the slow start.

SECOND HALF –
The Pirates came out and picked up where they left off in the first half with scores from Abby Borowicz and Chloe Boll. Isabella Smith would also knock down a three for Crookston, but the Pirates were having trouble getting stops, and the Flyers would remain down 20 trailing 44-24 with 12:45 remaining. After each team made a free throw, Crookston would go on a 9-0 run with five points from Emma Gunderson, two free throws from Isabelle Smith, and a layup from Abby Borowicz. That gave the Pirates a 54-25 lead with 8:15 left in the game. The Pirates continued to excel offensively, and eventually, they were able to push the game to running time with five minutes left. That allowed each team to get a few different players in, and when it was all wrapped up, Crookston was the victor by a final score of 67-29.

Crookston improves to 15-9 and will wrap up the regular season next week playing Stephen-Argyle and Breckenridge. Bagley drops to 4-21 with the loss.
