The National Weather Service in Grand Forks has issued a Winter Storm Warning for portions of Northwestern Minnesota and Eastern North Dakota from 6:00 p.m. Sunday to Noon on Monday, February 4. The warning includes the cities of Crookston, East Grand Forks, Red Lake Falls, Fertile, Fosston, McIntosh, Erskine, Ada, Twin Valley, Halstad, Moorhead, Thief River Falls, Mahnomen, and Waubun in Minnesota and Grand Forks, Cooperstown, Finley, Hope, Mayville, Hillsboro, Hatton, Valley City and Fargo, North Dakota.
Heavy snow and blowing snow expected. Total snow accumulations of 4 to 6 inches expected for areas south of HWY 200. Total snow accumulations of 6 to 8 inches for areas north of HWY 200. Winds gusting as high as 40 mph.
Travel could be very difficult. Areas of blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning or evening commute. The cold wind chills as low as 25 below zero could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 30 minutes.
A Winter Storm Warning for snow means severe winter weather conditions will make travel very hazardous or impossible. If you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food, and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency.
