The National Weather Service in Grand Forks, North Dakota has issued a Winter Storm Warning for Western Minnesota and Eastern North Dakota.
The warning includes the following counties – West Polk, Norman, Clay, Kittson, West Marshall, Wilkin, Traill, Cass, Ransom, Sargent, and Richland.
Including the cities of Crookston, East Grand Forks, Ada, Twin Valley, Halstad, Moorhead, Hallock, Karlstad, Lancaster, Warren, Stephen, Argyle, Breckenridge, Mayville, Hillsboro, Hatton, Portland, Fargo, Lisbon, Enderlin, Gwinner, Milnor, Forman, Rutland, and Wahpeton.
WHAT…Rain gradually becoming all snow tonight. Lighter snow rates tonight will become heavier Friday into Saturday. There will be a very tight snowfall gradient, with amounts ranging from 6 to 12 inches, with locally higher amounts possible. Winds gusting as high as 50 mph on Friday into Saturday will result in large, impassable drifts.
WHERE…Portions of northwest and west central Minnesota and southeast North Dakota.
WHEN…From 7 PM this evening to 1 PM CDT Saturday.
IMPACTS…Several days of difficult travel. Disruptions to travel will last through at least the weekend. Localized power outages. Tree and structural damage from the heavy snow load. Disruptions to agricultural and livestock activities.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…If you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food, and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency.
