The National Weather Service in Grand Forks has issued a Winter Storm Watch for Crookston, Western Minnesota and Eastern North Dakota from Thursday morning through Saturday afternoon.
The watch includes the following counties – Polk, Norman, Clay, Roseau, Marshall, Pennington, Red Lake, Mahnomen, West Becker, Wilkin, Traill, Cass, Ransom, Sargent, and Richland.
Including the cities of Crookston, East Grand Forks, Ada, Twin Valley, Halstad, Moorhead, Roseau, Warroad, Greenbush, Warren, Stephen, Argyle, Newfolden, Middle River, Grygla, Thief River Falls, Red Lake Falls, Fosston, Fertile, McIntosh, Erskine, Mahnomen, Naytahwaush, Waubun, Detroit Lakes, Breckenridge, Mayville, Hillsboro, Hatton, Portland, Fargo, Lisbon, Enderlin, Gwinner, Milnor, Forman, Rutland, and Wahpeton.
WHAT…Heavy snow is possible. Initial snow accumulations of 8 to 10 inches possible with additional significant accumulations Friday and Saturday. Winds could gust as high as 50 mph.
WHERE…Portions of northwest and west-central Minnesota and southeast North Dakota.
WHEN…From Thursday morning through Saturday afternoon.
IMPACTS…Travel could be very difficult. Areas of blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility. Significant travel impacts are possible. Tree damage and power outages are possible.
ADDITIONAL DETAILS…There will be a very tight zone with a transition from rain to snow. This will set up near Hallock, Grand Forks and Valley City. Therefore expect large snowfall differences, especially in Grand Forks county with less snow in the city and more snow west of the Air Base.
