WITH CARES ACT DEADLINE APPROACHING CITY COUNCIL APPROVES FINAL EXPENDITURES

Crookston City Council

The Crookston City Council met on Monday night with the loan agenda item, two additional CARES Act Small Business Grants receiving unanimous approval. The grants went to the Oakdale Cemetery Association for $8,000 and the Cobblestone Hotel Group for $18,600.53.

The two entities had been asked to submit additional supporting material during the original application review explained City Administrator Amy Finch. “That pool of money, the $26,600.53, put the remaining funds from the CARES Act out into the hands of businesses,” said Finch. “There was a lot of discussion on being equitable and trying to be sure that applicants that had similar types of businesses received an equitable amount of money. I think the Council and committee made the right decision in getting the rest of that money out. The CARES deadline is the 15th to have the checks cut and get that money out, so that was kind of our last chance to get that money out into the hands of the businesses for some additional support.”

The City Council also unanimously approved the evening’s consent agenda which included the purchase of the live-streaming equipment for the Council Chambers. Finch said that it is expected to take a few weeks for the equipment to be ordered, installed, and staff to be trained in its use. “Now that the resolution has been approved and the check can be cut, we’ll be contacting the company tomorrow,” said Finch. “I imagine that we’ll have to look at when they can get a tech out here in their schedule. They are aware the Council was considering the item this evening, so they are expecting a call from us tomorrow to let them know what the final decision was.”

Four public hearings were also scheduled for November 23 for proposed assessments:

  • Project 972 – Radisson Road from University Avenue frontage to approximately 400 feet east of Hoven Lane by street reconstruction
  • Project 973 – 5th Ave from South Main Street to Sunflower Street by street reconstruction
  • Project 974 – Sahlstrom Drive from Fisher Avenue to North Acres Drive by bituminous mill & overlay
  • Hearing for proposed assessment for unpaid water and sewer charges and charges for current services
