2nd annual Crookston Youth Track and Field meet to take place Saturday at Crookston High School

The City of Crookston and Polk County Health Department will hold the second annual Youth Track and Field Meet this Saturday, May 9th, at KROX Radio Stadium on the campus of Crookston High School, 402 W. Fisher Avenue. This event is open to the public, and no pre-registration is required.

Polk County Public Health Director Sarah Reese says this event is an incredible opportunity for families and residents of all ages to come together and get active in a fun and relaxed environment.

“I heard about both Grand Forks and Fosston doing a youth track meet, and I thought it would be fun to showcase the KROX Stadium and our new track, which is lovely,” said Reese. “It’s nice to have all age groups enjoy the facility and the track and have exposure to track and field events for elementary-age students from Crookston and the surrounding area. Everyone is welcome.”

A light, grab-and-go breakfast will be served at 9:30 a.m. with free-will donations accepted, and the meet starts at 10:00 a.m. Filed events include long jump and shot put/softball throw. Track events include the 50-meter dash and 50-meter hurdles (1st grade and under), the 100-meter dash (2nd through 6th grade), the 200-meter dash, the 400-meter dash, and a mile run for all ages.

Reese says they are always open to people volunteering to help with officiating events.

“If there is people that are interested in helping, whether they have children that might be participating, or they have previously participated in track and field, or if they just want to get out and do something on Saturday morning, I always take helpers.”
