#4 Crookston Pirate Girls Tennis beats Moorhead

The #4 ranked Crookston Pirate Girls Tennis team traveled to Moorhead and beat the Spuds 5-2 in a dual on a windy and warm day.

CROOKSTON VS MOORHEAD –
The Pirates used a different line-up than usual, and they won easily playing with winds up to 42 mph at the Horizon Middle School complex in Moorhead. Crookston won two singles matches and all three doubles. The singles winners came at second singles with Addie Fee shutting out her opponent 6-0, 6-0 in a match that Fee played the wind beautifully and her opponent did not., and at third singles with Emma LaPlante continuing her improvement winning 6-2, 6-1.
The first doubles team of Georgia Sanders and Ashlyn Bailey hooked up and cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 victory.
The second doubles team of Paige Abrahamson and Ava Martin, two lefthanders played together for the first time and coasted to a 6-2, 6-0 win. Both girls said, “it was fine playing together, it went well.”
The third doubles team of Chloe Boll and Logan Brekken won a close first set 6-4 before cruising to a 6-1 victory.

Moorhead’s two victories came at number one singles with the Pirates Kaylie Clauson dropping a 6-3, 6-3 match and at number four singles, Crookston’s Emelia Hoerner split her first two sets and then ended up losing a 10-4 tie breaker.
Crookston won the match 5-2 and improves to 14-4 on the year and will wrap up the regular season on Saturday when they host Park Rapids and Roseau on Saturday.
It will be Senior’s Day (Paige Abrahamson, Kaylie Clauson, Addie Fee, Mariah Overgaard, Georgia Sanders), and Parent’s Day for the Pirates who will face Park Rapids at 10:00 AM, followed by Roseau playing Park Rapids at 11:30 AM and it will finish with the Pirates playing Roseau. Both matches will be Section 8A matches and will be important for the seeds on October 4 for both the TEAM TOURNAMENT and INDIVIDUAL TOURNAMENT that will be October 10, 11 and 12th at Fargo Courts Plus, in Fargo, N.D.
