#6 RANKED PIRATE GIRLS FALLS TO BEMIDJI, BOUNCES BACK TO BEAT D.L.

The Crookston Pirate Girl’s Tennis team battled but lost to the Bemidji Lumberjacks 6-1 for their second loss of the season, but they bounced back to beat the Detroit Lakes Lakers 7-0, the third win over the Lakers in about a week, at the Bemidji triangular.

CROOKSTON vs BEMIDJI
The first match of the day was against the toughest opponent Crookston will see during the regular season as they played the Bemidji Lumberjacks.  Crookston loaded up their singles line-up, but it didn’t phase Bemidji early as they won the first three matches. “I went with a singles-heavy line-up and I thought all four of them played well and they matched up well with their opponents.  There was a lot of great tennis played,” said Coach Tiedemann.
The Lumberjacks won the first singles match, but Crookston’s Hayden Winjum played Savannah Haugen (who is ranked in AA) to a 6-3, 6-1 loss. “I thought Hayden played really well,” said Pirate Coach Sue Tiedmenan. “Savannah is such a good player and Hayden was tied 3-3 in the first set and battled the entire match.”  Bemidji won the first doubles match with a shutout (6-0, 6-0) score, and after a tight first set, they won the third doubles match 6-4, 6-1 to take an early 3-0 lead.  Crookston’s Emma Osborn lost a hard-fought first set 7-5 and lost her match.  “Emma lost the first set in a tie-breaker and played very well, especially in the first set,” said Coach Tiedmann.  Brekken Tull, at fourth singles, lost the best match of the day with a 7-5 loss in set one, a 6-3 win in set two, and a 10-5 loss in the third set. “Brekken played excellently and she plays like a first singles player,” said Coach Tiedemann. “I was proud of Brekken and how she battled out there and never gave up.”
Second doubles, Kaylie Clauson and Halle Bruggeman lost 6-3, 6-2.  The lone Pirate win came at third singles with Halle Winjum winning 6-3, 6-3 to avoid the shutout.  “Halle was out on the court for a couple of hours,” said Coach Tiedemann. “She kept the ball on the court and played her game to get the win.”
Crookston drops to 12-2 on the year with one draw with Thief River Falls.  Bemidji wins their eighth match in a row.
