The #7 ranked Class A Crookston Pirates Girls Tennis team is taking on two solid opponents today at the Crookston High School tennis courts. Crookston beat Moorhead 6-1 and outlasted Thief River Falls 4-3 in a match that took over three hours to complete at the Crookston High School Tennis courts.
CROOKSTON VS MOORHEAD –
The Pirates had a close match with Moorhead this year and actually tied 3-3 as the seventh match was called due to darkness. Crookston turned things around in a big way today as they beat the Moorhead Spuds 6-1.
The match was a lot closer than the 6-1 score indicated as Crookston won two three-set matches and Moorhead won the second doubles match in three sets.
Crookston won all four singles matches with three victories coming in straight sets.
Halle Winjum won the first singles match with an impressive 6-0, 6-2 victory. Brekken Tull did what she usually doe as she wore down her opponent after losing the first set 6-4 and bounced back to win the second set 6-4 before winning the third set in a marathon 10-8.
Abby Borowicz made quick work of her opponent at third singles with a 6-0, 6-2 victory and Paige Abrahamson continues her winning ways as she won the fourth singles match 6-3, 6-2 to complete the singles sweep.
In doubles, Crookston won the first doubles match with Halle Bruggeman and Emma Gunderson teaming up for an impressive 6-2, 6-2 victory.
The second doubles team of Isabelle Smith and Kaylie Clauson lost a heart-breaker in three sets. They lost the first set 6-3 before dominating the second set with a 6-1 win. In the third set, they lost 10-8.
The third doubles team of Addie Fee and Jenna Seaver won another marathon as they lost the first set 6-4 before winning the second set 6-2. In the third set, Fee and Seaver won 11-9!

CROOKSTON VS THIEF RIVER FALLS –
The last match of the night got started before 6:00 p.m. and finally ended with a 4-3 Crookston win over Thief River Falls at 9:17! The triangular had three solid tennis teams battling with long matches and the day/evening of great tennis started 90 minutes before the volleyball match at the high school and ended about 20 to 30 minutes after!
Crookston built a 4-2 lead with Abby Borowicz cruising to a 6-0, 6-2 victory at third singles. Paige Abrahamson continued her winning ways as they won her fourth singles match in two sets with a second-set tiebreaker.
Crookston has been known for their solid doubles play for decades and this year is no different as the first doubles team of Hallie Bruggeman and Emma Gunderson won a three-set thriller 6-4, 3-6, 10-7. After a second doubles loss, Crookston picked up a win at third doubles as Addie Fee and Jenna Seaver cruised to a 6-4, 6-2 victory.
There was one match left with the first single match starting last. Halle Winjum lost the first set 7-5 and took a 3-2 lead in the second set under the lights. It was at this time the volleyball match between Crookston and Thief River Falls and some fans started to filter in to watch the end of the tennis match. Brooklyn Broadwell battled back to win the second set 6-4 to give the Prowlers their third victory, but Crookston won the match 4-3.
Crookston improves to 10-3-1 on the year and will travel to Bemidji for a triangular with Bemidji and Detroit Lakes on Tuesday.
