ADA-BORUP SCORES FIRST 13 POINTS HOLDS ON TO BEAT PIRATE GIRLS BASKETBALL

The Crookston Pirate Girls Basketball team trailed 13-0 to start the game and they weren’t able to recover in a 59-47 loss to #6 ranked Ada-Borup/Norman County West Cougars in a game played in Ada.

Ada-Borup/West came out with some tough defense at the start of the game and used the defense to get some quick points to take a 13-0 lead at the start of the game. “It was not a very good start for us,” said Pirate Coach Darin Zimmerman. “It was kind of slow and the pulled away.  They shot well and we didn’t shoot well obviously, not making any shots.” Crookston settled down the rest of the half and trailed 32-16 at halftime.  “They played a good game defensively and we didn’t make many shots in the first half,” said Coach Zimmerman. “I thought we got ourselves established as the half went along.”
In the second half, Crookston got off to a slow start, but settled and started hitting some three-pointers (six in the second half) mixed that with solid defense and outplayed Ada-Borup over the last 12 minutes of the game, but the 13-point deficit to start the game was too much and the Cougars won the game 59-47.  “We started playing better defense in the second half,” said Coach Zimmerman. “We made six three-pointers in the second half and I like the way we played in the last 12 minutes of the game.  If we play like that the rest of the way I will be happy.”  Emma Borowicz led the Pirates with 22 points.
Crookston drops to 11-4 on the year.  Ada-Borup/West improves to 11-2 on the year.
