The Crookston Pirate Volleyball team played well at times, but the Thief River Falls Prowlers were too much as they pulled away for a 3-0 (25-15, 25-16, 25-16) victory in a Section 8AA matchup played in Thief River Falls.
SET ONE
Crookston started the match by scoring the first two points with a Hannah Loraas kill and a Libby Salentin ace. “The girls came out ready to play,” said Pirate Coach Katie Englestad. ” Thief River Falls responded with four straight points, including three service aces from Carlie Rogalla for a 4-2 lead. The teams were tied at 8 and 9 before Thief River Falls ended the set on a 16-6 run for a 25-15 victory to take a 1-0 lead in the match. “Thief River Falls took over the match,” said Coach Englestad. “Ally Perreault played well and is a smart player. I was pretty pleased with how they played.”
SET TWO
Crookston scored the first point of the set when Thief River Falls had a service error, but the Prowlers responded with a 9-0 run with a couple of aces from Rogalla for a 9-1 lead. The teams played even the rest of the way and the Prowlers won 25-16. “We got too timid,” said Coach Englestad. “We had a lot of small things that shouldn’t be happening at this level and have to figure out how to fix it.”
SET THREE –
Crookston jumped out to a 4-0 lead and things were looking good at the start of the set. Thief River Falls answered with an 8-0 run, including another ace from Rogalla for an 8-4 lead. Crookston wasn’t able to recover and Thief River Falls slowly pulled away the rest of the match for a 25-16 victory to win the match 3-0. “I saw some great things tonight, but we have a lot of fundamental things we need to work on including communication and playing with a loud student body,” said Coach Engelstad.
Crookston drops to 1-5 on the year and will host Norman County East/Ulen-Hitterdal on Thursday. Thief River Falls improves to 3-1 on the year.
