PELICAN RAPIDS CRUISES TO A VICTORY OVER PIRATE BOYS BASKETBALL

The Pelican Rapids Vikings scored 55 first-half points and never looked back in an 80-48 victory over the Crookston Pirate Boys Basketball team in a game played at Pelican Rapids.

Pelican Rapids started the game with a 9-4 lead and later led 20-11 before they went on a 14-2 run to take a 34-13 lead with 7:21 left in the half and it seemed like Pelican Rapids couldn’t miss a shot.  “We weren’t hot by any means,” said Pirate Coach Greg Garmen.  “The kids were cackling in the locker room before the game.  I wasn’t sure what they were doing and I’m not sure what their mindset was, but they weren’t ready to go.”  Pelican Rapids continued their hot shooting and scored 55 points in the first half and led 55-27 at halftime.  “We were down big at halftime and we’re going to need 15 stops in a row to start the second half,” said Coach Garmen.

Crookston didn’t get the 15 stops in a row to start the second half and gave up four straight points and continued to build on their lead and took a 76-40 lead halfway through the second half and running time started and Pelican Rapids cruised to the 80-48 victory. “We need some practice time and get back to the drawing board and shore some things up,” said Coach Garmen. “We have a lot of work to do and have Thief River Falls on Thursday.”
Crookston drops to 6-12 on the year and will host Thief River Falls on Thursday.  Pelican Rapids improves to 7-11 on the year.
