The Crookston Pirate Wrestling team beat Grand Forks Red River 75-6, and completed the sweep with a 42-36 victory over Grand Forks Central in a triangular in Crookston.
CROOKSTON VS RED RIVER
At 120 pounds, Evin Trudeau dominated the first period and took an 8-0 lead in the first two minutes. Trudeau scored two on a takedown in the first seconds of the second period and took a 15-2 lead into the third period. 51 seconds into the third period, Crookston’s Trudeau won by a tech fall to give the pirates an 11-6 lead.
Gavyn Hlucny came out strong at 126 pounds and won by a pin in 57 seconds for a 17-6 lead.
After two forfeits, Ethan Bowman dominated his match and won by a pin in the second period. Casey Weiland dominated his match at 152 pounds and won by a pin 34 seconds into the match for a 41-6 lead.
At 160 pounds, Carter Coauette won by a forfeit. The win for Coauette was the 100th career victory. Jose Arriaga also won. by a forfeit at 170 pounds.
At 182 pounds, Layten Fuentes had the only win by decision. Layten battled and slowly built a lead throughout the match and won 8-0 for a major decision.
Hunter Knutson won by another forfeit at 195 pounds before Ethan Boll won at 220 pounds by a pin in 41 seconds. Boll’s win was the 175th of his career.
The final match of the dual was heavyweight, with Hunter Kresl winning by a pin in the second period, and the Pirates won the dual 75-6.
Crookston improves to 4-2 on the year.

CROOKSTON VS GRAND FORKS CENTRAL –
Grand Forks Central won the first two matches of the dual by pin for a 12-0 lead.
Crookston’s Evin Trudeau dominated his match at 120 pounds and picked up a pin in the first period. After a Central pin, Crookston’s Gavyn Hlucny and Lucas Perala picked up big wins by pin at 132 and 138 pounds for an 18-18 tie.
The first match to go past the first period was at 145 pounds, as Crookston’s Ethan Bowman had two takedowns for a 4-1 lead going into the second period. In the second period, Winn-Kelley battled back with a gifted escape, which allowed him to get a takedown the match was tied at 4-4. Bowman had a nice reversal late to regain a 6-4 lead and then took a 9-4 lead in the third period. He added a reversal and four more points in the last seconds of the match for a 15-4 major decision victory to give Crookston a 22-18 lead.
The next match at 152 pounds was another exciting match. Crookston’s Casey Weiland took a 2-0 lead early on before his opponent responded with a reversal and a takedown for a 4-2 lead going into the second period. Weiland answered with three points for a 5-4 lead before giving up an escape, and the match was tied at 5-5. A few seconds later, Weiland was slammed to the mat and was pinned, and Grand Forks Central took a 24-22 lead.
At 160 pounds, Carter Coauette took a 2-0 lead early with a takedown and took a 2-1 lead into the second period. Carter had an escape and takedown for a 5-1 lead halfway through the period. Carter was close to a pin and was awarded three near-fall points for an 8-1 lead. Carter dominated the match and won 13-4 to give the Pirates a 26-24.
At 195 pounds, Hunter Knutson struck first with a takedown for a 2-0 lead. Knutson struck in the first few seconds of the second period with another takedown for a 4-0 lead and then took a 5-0 lead into the third period. Knutson started the final period with an escape and a takedown for an 8-0 lead. Hunter gave up and escaped before countering with a takedown and held on for a 10-1 victory to give his team a 36-30 lead.
Crookston solidified the victory at 220 pounds as Ethan Boll won by a pin in 55 seconds for a 42-30 lead going into the heavyweight match. Central won the heavyweight match by a pin, and Crookston won the dual 42-36.
Crookston improves to 5-2 on the year and will host the Rodd Olson Invitational tournament at the Crookston High School gym on Saturday.
