The 2023 Miss Crookston Scholarship pageant will have a major change this year, with the competition being held on Monday, August 14, at 7:00 p.m. at the Crookston High School Auditorium.
The change from the usual Friday to Monday is to allow the contestants to participate in as many Ox Cart Days Activities as possible. “We are trying out having the pageant on Monday instead of a Friday with the reason being a lot of the community would want our contestants and (Miss Crookston 2022) Macy (Fee), the queen, to be in stuff, and we would always have a rehearsal so we decided to change it to Monday and they can go do Ox Cart Festivities and have a great time all together and we will try it,” said Pageant Director JeanAnn Bienek.
This year’s theme is Barbie. “We were trying to think of a theme, and we were talking to Macy after our first meeting with the contestants, and Macy said we should really do a Barbie theme because the big Barbie movie is coming out,” said Bienek. “So our theme is Barbie, and it will be a lot of fun, and the girls are having fun with it.”
There are six contestants in this year’s pageant.
Emily Balboa, the daughter of Jami Philips and Estevan Balboa. Emily’s sponsor is Absolute Refrigeration LLC, and her talent will be speed painting.
Jaden Newquist, the daughter of Tessa Brouse and Dalton Newquist. Jaden’s talent is singing and dancing.
Calleigh Fanfulik, the daughter of Mindy and Chad Fanfulik. Calleigh’s sponsor is the Benedictine Living Community of Crookston, and her talent is dancing.
Emily Boucher, the daughter of Stefanie and John Boucher. Emily’s sponsor is Crookston Valley Coop, and her talent is rollerblading.
Halle Winjum, the daughter of Leah and Chris Winjum. Halle’s sponsor is Boll Family Farms, and her talent is singing and playing the ukulele.
Amelia Cardova, the daughter of Dawn Page and Scott Cordova. Amelia’s sponsor is the Crookston Pet Clinic, and her talent is a lyrical dance solo.
Tickets will be available at the door on Monday, August 14. KROX will have the six contestants and Miss Crookston 2022 Macy Fee on Valley Talk on Friday, August 11, at 10:40 a.m.
