SECOND PEDESTRIAN OF THE WEEK DIES IN GRAND FORKS CRASH MONDAY NIGHT

Charges against Tyson Sewell have been forwarded to the State’s Attorney’s office for review in this case.

The charges are Driving with a Revoked License (B Misdemeanor) and Leaving the Scene of an Accident Resulting in Death (B Felony). The maximum penalty for these offenses are: thirty daysʹ imprisonment, a fine of one thousand five hundred dollars, or both and ten yearsʹ imprisonment, a fine of twenty thousand dollars, or both.

At this time, no other charges are anticipated.

The victim, in this case, has been identified as David R. Hagen, 65 y/o, of Grand Forks. The details behind how the crash occurred are still being investigated.

No criminal charges have been filed at this time. Upon the conclusion of the investigation all facts will be considered and charging decisions will be made in consultation with the Grand Forks County State’s Attorney’s office.

ORIGINAL STORY

On Monday, April 8, at approximately 10:11 p.m., officers of the Grand Forks Police Department were dispatched to the 4300-block of Gateway Dr. for a report of a male subject lying in the roadway with a head injury after being struck by a vehicle.  Initial investigation determined the male subject was crossing the road walking southbound outside of the crosswalk when he was struck by a 1996 Honda Accord driven by 40-year-old Tyson Sewell of Grand Forks traveling westbound.  CPR was attempted on the male but he was pronounced deceased on scene.

The Grand Forks Police Department was assisted by Altru Ambulance Service, the Grand Forks Fire Department, the Grand Forks Sheriff Department and the ND Highway Patrol.  The Crash Analysis Reconstruction Team and the Regional UAS team also assisted in the investigation.

This investigation is active and ongoing, and the Grand Forks Police Department would ask anyone who may have any information regarding this incident to contact investigators through any of the methods provided below:
