#4 Ranked Crookston Pirate Girls Tennis Finishes 2nd at the NW Quad

The #4 ranked Crookston Pirate Girls Tennis team had two first-place finishes and four second-place finishes and finished tied for second at the Northwest Quad tournament in Thief River Falls. Thief River Falls won the tournament with 14 points, while Crookston and East Grand Forks tied for second place with 12 points.

CHAMPIONS –
Crookston had two champions, and it was Emma LaPlante at third singles and Emelia Hoerner at fourth singles.
LaPlante beat Sienna Lee of Moorhead 6-2, 6-1 and beat Olivia Schuster of Thief River Falls in three sets. Emma lost the first set 7-6 and bounced back to win the second set 6-3 and the third set 10-6. LaPlante lost a three-set battle with East Grand Forks’ Aria Casavan. Emma lost the first set 6-3 before winning the second set in impressive fashion with a 6-1 victory. In the third set, it was a great back-and-forth battle, but Emma came up short in a 10-8 loss. Emma won the tie-breaker and was awarded first place.
At fourth singles, Emelia Hoener continued her outstanding play as she won all three of her matches. She beat the East Grand Forks opponent 6-2, 6-1, and beat Lauren Palmer of Moorhead 7-6 in the first set before winning the second set 6-3. Hoerner is a gamer and she showed that in the match against Tegan Pray after she lost the first set 6-2 she bounced back to win the second set 6-2. In the third set, Hoerner was able to come up with some big winners and won 10-5 to finish first place.

SECOND PLACERS-
Crookston had four second-place
finishes on the day. Ava Martin at second singles and all three doubles teams.
The first doubles team of Kaylie Clauson and Addie Fee were hot and cold on the day. They beat Walsh and Svendsen of East Grand Forks 6-3, 6-1. They beat Moorhead’s Norden and Grafstrom 6-2, 6-0 and lost to Thief River Falls’ Ellison and Lunsetter 7-5, 6-0.
The second doubles team of Georgia Sanders and Logan Brekken continued to play solid doubles as they beat East Grand Forks’ Pulkrabek and McDonald in a three-set battle. They lost the first set 6-4 before winning the second set 6-3. In the third set, Sanders and Brekken came up with some big winners to win 10-7. The Pirate duo had no problems with Moorhead’s team with a 6-0, 6-0 victory. The match with Thief River Falls’ Lunsetter and Kruse was a great match. Thief River Falls won the first set 7-5, and they also won the second set 7-6 and 7-5 in the tie-breaker to get the win.
The third doubles team of Chloe Boll and Mariah Overgaard went 2-1 on the day to finish second place. They lost a battle with East Grand Forks. They lost the first set 7-6 (7-4 in the tie-breaker) and lost the second set 6-4. Overgaard and Boll beat Moorhead in impressive fashion 6-0, 6-2, and beat Thief River Falls in a marathon battle. Crookston won the first set 7-6 and 7-5 in the tie-breaker. They lost the second set 6-2. In the third set, Overgaard and Boll finished strong with a 10-3 victory to go 2-1 on the day.

Crookston will travel to Moorhead on Thursday for a dual with the Spuds.
