Crookston Pirate Baseball falls to Fosston

The Crookston Pirate baseball team struggled with control issues on the mound and committed six errors in the field as the Fosston Greyhounds cruised to a 16-6 victory in a game played in Fosston.

FIRST INNING-
Crookston’s Parker Kelly reached on an error, stole second base. Matt Contreras singled to right field and Kelly stopped at third base, but the Fosston throw home was off the mark and Kelly came into score on the second Greyhound error of the inning for a 1-0 lead. The next two batters were retired.
Fosston took advantage of Pirate pitcher control problems in the bottom of the inning. Ryne Duppong led off with a single before Brodie Sather walked. Mitchell Mulry was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Tanner Vig reached on a fielder’s choice as Crookston got the force out at home for the first out of the inning. With bases loaded, Will Christen walked to score a run. Jakob Rudie reached on an error on the shortstop that allowed another run to score for a 2-1 lead. Tucker Djernes walked to score a run and Jake Howard grounded out to second base to score another run for a 4-1 lead. After a Dawson Bailie walk, Duppong was hit by a pitch to score a run to give Fosston a 5-1 lead.

SECOND INNING-
Crookston’s Carter Fee was hit by a pitch to start the inning and Aiden Delage walked. Fee stole third base and a few pitches later Delage was caught stealing at second for the first out of the inning. The next two batters were retired.
Fosston broke the game open in the bottom of the inning as Vig reached on an error, Christen doubled, Rudie singled to score a run. After an out, Gavin Curfman was hit by a pitch and Dawson Bailie reached on an error that allowed two runs to score. Duppong followed with a double to score two more runs for a 10-1 lead.

THIRD INNING –
Crookston was retired in 1-2-3 fashion.
Fosston’s Vig, Christen, and Rudie all singled with one out to load the bases. Djerness walked to score a run. Another run scored on a wild pitch before Curfman walked to load the bases. Bailie singled to score a run and Duppong walked to score another run. Sather reached on an error that allowed another run to score and Mulry blasted a line drive to the right field fence to score a run for a 16-1 lead.

FOURTH INNING-
Crookston’s Ecker walked and advanced to second on an error. After a strikeout, Fee walked. After another Pirate strikeout, Cody Demarais struck out but reached on a wild pitch. Nolan Cassavant hit a line drive as hard as one could, but it was right at the first baseman who caught the ball and the half-inning was over.
Fosston went down in 1-2-3 fashion in the bottom of the inning.

FIFTH INNING-
Crookston needed to score six runs to keep the game going and Jay Reese got things going with a leadoff single. Kelly walked and Contreras was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Ecker was also hit by a pitch to score a run. Perala followed with a blast to the centerfield fence to score two runs. Ecker scored on a wild pitch and the Pirates trailed 16-5. After an out, Aiden Delage walked and Demarais hit a deep fly to right field to score a run to bring Crookston within a 16-6 deficit and Delage was on third base with two outs. The next batter grounded out and the inning and game was over as Fosston won 16-6 in five innings.

Crookston drops to 3-9 on the year and will host East Grand Forks in a doubleheader on Tuesday. Fosston improves to 8-5 on the year.
