The Polk County Museum’s Pioneer Day will be Sunday, September 9 from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. with several exhibits, tours, and demonstrations throughout the day. There will be live musical performances in the Centennial Building at 1:00 p.m. by the O’Neil Family Musicians and at 2:00 p.m. by Double The Trouble.
“The O’Neil Family will be in the Centennial Building to help Jean O’Neil show some of her French-Canadian jigging and clogging,” said Polk County Museum President Jerry Amiot. “And at 2:00 p.m. we have a pair of talented teenagers with beautiful voices, who started fiddling and jigging at three years old and their dad backs them up on guitar and drums.” The live performances will continue in the Hafslo Church with a performance by The Woodpicks at 3:00 p.m.
Throughout the day there will be ongoing demonstrations on the spinning wheel and blacksmithing. Also on display will be “Hit & Miss” engines. Pioneer day will also feature the Sun Country and You Petting Zoo and free wagon rides by Point Paradise Stables.
Admission to Pioneer Day is free, although there will be opportunities including live music where the museum will be accepting free will donations. Concessions will be available for purchase including pie and ice cream. Also available for sale will be lefse and fry bread.
The BUS will run for free between Pioneer Day and their partner event, the Annual Sugarbeet Museum Harvest, put on by the Red River Sugarbeet Museum.
