Chloe Boll scores 1,000th career point, but Perham hits 13 three-pointers to beat Crookston Girls Basketball

The Crookston Pirate Girls Basketball team’s Chloe Boll scored the 1,000th point of her career with her first basket of the game, but the Perham Yellowjackets made 13 three-pointers (10 in the first half) as they cruised to a 78-29 victory in a Section 8AA matchup tonight at the Crookston High School gymnasium.

FIRST HALF –
Perham scored the first basket of the game before Crookston’s Chloe Boll answered with a basket two minutes into the game. The basket gave Chloe her 1,000th career point as the game was stopped, she was given the game ball, and ran into the crowd to give the ball to her parents. Play resumed, and each team scored a basket, leaving the game tied at 4-4.
Perham responded with a 24-6 run over the seven minutes. The run started with an Addi Draeger three-pointer. Ashtyn Kunza followed with a three-pointer before Draeger made a basket and Quinn Hanson buried a three-pointer for a 15-4 lead. After a Chloe Boll basket, Perham’s Kaia Anderson, the only senior on the team, made a three-pointer, and the Yellowjackets added a basket. Crookston’s Maddi Bruggeman and Brookly Waldal scored back-to-back baskets to get within a 20-10 deficit, only to have Perham score the next eight points with Anderson hitting two three-pointers and Lauren Gjerde scoring a basket after a beautiful pass from Anderson for a 28-10 lead with eight minutes left in the half.
Chloe Boll stopped the run with a free throw before Perham’s Anderson took over again with a basket and two three-pointers, and after a Chloe Boll basket, Anderson hit another three-pointer, only to be followed by a three-pointer from Hanson for a 42-13 lead with less than three minutes to go in the half.
Crookston’s Halle Nicholas made a free throw before Perham scored the next 10 points and had a 52-14 lead with 10 seconds left. Crookston’s Grace Boll made a three-pointer with a couple of seconds left, and Perham took a 52-17 lead into halftime. Perham’s Anderson had 24 points in the half, outscoring the Crookston team by seven. Perham made 10 three-pointers in the half, with six of them made by Kaia Anderson.

SECOND HALF –
Perham started the second half on a 9-2 run with Gjerde getting it going with a basket, two Regan Hemberger free throws and after a Pirate basket, Sophie Nelson added a basket and Anderson had a three-point play for a 61-19 lead. Crookston’s Halle Nicholas scored five straight points and after a Perham three-pointer, Chloe Boll and Grace Boll added baskets to get within a 64-28 deficit with 11 minutes left in the game. Perham responded with 14 straight points and running time started halfway through the half. The final nine minutes of the game flew by as both teams pulled the starters and played everybody on the bench and Perham cruised to a 78-29 victory.

Crookston drops to 1-4 on the year and 1-1 in section play and will host East Grand Forks on Friday.. Perham improves to 4-1 on the year and 2-1 in section play.
