Sacred Heart cruises to a win over Crookston Softball

The Crookston Pirate Softball team couldn’t handle the Sacred Heart Eagles as they fell by a score of 23-1 at KROX Radio Stadium on a rainy Monday afternoon.

FIRST INNING-
Sacred Heart got things started with a leadoff walk, and after a strikeout, Greta Effhauser came up, and she reached base on a throwing error, scoring Megan Weiss to make it 1-0. On the very next pitch, Effhauser would score on a wild pitch to make it 2-0. That would be all the Eagles would get, as Pirate ace Ally Wagner would get back-to-back strikeouts to end the inning.
After consecutive strikeouts to start the inning, Madi Bruggeman reached base for the Pirates with a walk. Crookston then got another baserunner from a throwing error before another strikeout ended the inning.

SECOND INNING-
Sacred Heart would absolutely explode in the second inning, as they would get 18 batters to the plate. The first pitch of the inning was a groundout, and from there the Eagles would become nearly impossible to get out. They would draw three straight walks, score a run on a fielder’s choice, and then get the bases cleared on a triple by Izzy Cwikla. This would be the start of a 12-inning rally, consisting of eight walks, two hit batsmen and three runners scoring via wild pitch. At the end of this crazy half inning, the Eagles would pull ahead to a 14-0 lead.
In the bottom of the second, the Pirates looked like they were poised to make a run of their own as the first three batters of the inning all walked. However, Blake Brockpahler was able to work out of it, getting two strikeouts and a groundout to end the inning without blemish.

THIRD INNING –
The third inning started the exact same way as the second, where the Pirates got the first Eagles batter out, but then Sacred Heart would begin to go on yet another run, scoring six runs in the inning and batting around once again. In this inning, the Eagles got two RBIs from Brockpahler and Sophia Modeen, and they also started using their bench, getting a hit from Mackenzie Quirk to extend the inning. Brea Lessard was good in relief, getting out of the inning, but by the end of it, it was 20-0 Eagles.
In the bottom of the frame, Crookston got back-to-back walks to start the inning, but a lineout to the second baseman Weiss squashed any hope of momentum for the Pirates in the inning. They did get runners on the corners, but a groundout ended the frame.

FOURTH INNING-
In the fourth inning, the Eagles began to open their bench for more opportunities, and got some great production, including a two-run double from Ruby Larson to make it 22-0. They would get one more run before toning down their aggressiveness, ending the inning with a 23-0 lead.
The Pirates got off to yet another solid start to an inning with three straight walks. The Eagles did pick off a runner, but back-to-back hit batsmen would put the Pirates on the board at 23-1. The game would end soon after, though, as a strikeout sealed a 23-1 victory for Sacred Heart.

Crookston starts the year 0-1, while Sacred Heart improves to 1-2.
