The Crookston Pirate Softball team allowed the Thief River Falls Prowlers to score six runs in the third inning, and that broke the game open in a 14-2 loss in a Section 8AA matchup played at KROX Radio Stadium.
FIRST INNING-
Thief River Falls’ Braylee Wienen led off the game with an inside-the-park home run for a 1-0 lead. Piper Greene singled before a walk and a single that loaded the bases. A walk scored a run, and a single added another run for a 3-0 lead.
Crookston’s Rilynn Aubol led off the bottom of the inning with a walk and advanced to third, and was stranded there as the next three batters were retired and the Prowlers led 3-0.
SECOND INNING-
Thief River Falls’ lead-off batter walked, stole second base, and moved to third base on an error and scored on the same error for a 4-0 lead.
In the bottom of the inning, Byrnna Kopecky led off with a single. The next batter struck out before a double play, and the inning was over with TRF leading 4-0.
THIRD INNING –
Thief River Falls came out swinging in the third inning with a lead-off double, followed by two singles to score a run. Two runs scored on a double for a 7-0 lead. The next Prowler batter was hit by a pitch before a triple scored two more runs for a 9-0 lead with nobody out. The next Prolwer singled up the middle to score a run for a 10-0 lead.
Crookston looked to bounce back in the bottom of the inning when Brylee Darco doubled to right field and Allysen Wagner walked. The next two batters were retired before Madi Bruggeman drew a walk, but the next batter grounded out and the inning was over with TRF leading 10-0.
FOURTH INNING-
The Prowlers had a one-out single before a strikeout. The next two Prowler batters were hit by a pitch and walked to load the bases. A single knocked in a run for an 11-0 lead.
Crookston’s Kopecky reached again with a leadoff walk in the bottom of the inning. After a groundout, Lilly Corneillie singled, and runners were at the corners. Corneillie stole second base before Darco grounded out and a run scored to get the Pirates within an 11-1 deficit after four innings.
FIFTH INNING
The first two Prowler batters were retired on a groundout and a lineout to Crookston shortstop Madi Bruggeman. The Prowlers singled and drew two walks to load the bases before the next batter struck out.
Crookston needed one run to keep the game going, and Wagner started the bottom of the inning with a walk, followed by a Rilynn Aubol double. Brylee Lessard laid down a beautiful bunt down the first base line for a single, and a run scored on an error, and Crookston trailed 11-2. The first Pirate out came on a baserunning error before the next two batters were retired, and TRF led 11-2.
SIXTH INNING-
The first Thief River Falls batter drew a walk before they had two hard-hit line drives to right field and center field. The next two batters walked to load the bases before a double cleared the bases to score three runs for a 14-2 lead.
Crookston was retired in the bottom of the inning in order, and Thief River Falls won the game 14-2 in six innings.
Crookston drops to 0-2 on the year and hosts Ada-Borup-West on Thursday. Thief River Falls improves to 1-2 on the year.
