The Crookston Pirate Baseball team is taking on the Roseau Rams in a Section 8AA doubleheader being played at Gilbertson Field in Roseau.
FIRST INNING-
Crookston had a good start to the game while taking advantage of Roseau errors. Greyson Ecker hit a hard ground ball to third base, and it went off the glove, allowing Ecker to reach. The throw to first base was off the mark, and Ecker advanced to second base on the play. Gavyn Hlucny singled up the middle, and a throw to third base was off the mark, and Ecker scored on the third Roseau error of the inning for a 1-0 lead.
With one out, Roseau drew a pair of walks, but Crookston’s Hlucny retired the next two batters to get out of the jam with a 1-0 lead.
SECOND INNING-
Crookston was retired in 1-2-3 fashion with three strikeouts. The first two Roseau batters were retired before Keane Johnson had a check swing double. The next batter struck out and Crookston took a 1-0 lead into the third inning.
THIRD INNING –
Crookston’s Aiden Delage started the inning with a hit by pitch. Dexter Janek singled and advanced to second on an error that also allowed Delage to score for a 2-0 lead. Ecker followed with a single to score a run for a 3-0 lead. Hlucny singled and stole second base, and Lucas Perala grounded out to second base, allowing a run to score for a 4-0 lead. Isaiah Donarski hit a deep fly ball to right field to score another run for a 5-0 lead.
With one out, Roseau’s Tanner Paulson singled, stole second base, and scored on a wild pitch to get within a 5-1 deficit.
FOURTH INNING-
Crookston was retired in 1-2-3 fashion. Roseau’s Austin Wiskow reached and advanced to second on an error. He stole third base before scoring on a wild pitch to get within a 5-2 deficit.
FIFTH INNING-
Crookston was retired in 1-2-3 fashion. Roseau continued to chip away at the Pirate lead as Paulson led off the bottom of the inning with a double, Trey Mertens reached on an error. A run scored on a passed ball and another run scored on a wild pitch to bring the Rams within a 5-4 deficit. Crookston retired the next three batters to take a 5-4 lead into the sixth inning.
SIXTH INNING-
Crookston was retired in 1-2-3 fashion for the third straight inning. Roseau’s Heath Baugner led off the bottom of the inning with a single, a stolen base, and moved to third on a wild pitch. After a strikeout, Abram Lundbohm reached on an error, and a run scored to tie the game at 5-5. Anton Klint reached on an error that allowed another Ram run to score to tie the game at 5-5. Another run scored on another Pirate error before Paulson reached on an error and the third run of the inning scored (all on Pirate errors) for a 7-5 lead.
SEVENTH INNING-
Crookston bounced back in the seventh inning as Nolan Cassavant hit a line drive to right field, and it was dropped. Cody Demarais pinch hit and hit a line drive up the middle. Aiden Delage laid down a perfect bunt down the third baseline, and everybody was safe to load the bases with nobody out. Dexter Janek blasted a line drive up the middle, but the Roseau shortstop was in perfect position to catch the ball and step on second base for a double play. The next batter was retired and Roseau won the game 7-5.

Game 2
FIRST INNING-
Crookston’s Dexter Janek led off the game with a walk and a stolen base to get to second base. The next three batters were retired.
Roseau’s Klint singled and stole second base to start the bottom of the inning. Tanner Paulson singled before Trey Mertens hit a sacrifice fly to score the first run of the game for a 1-0 lead.
SECOND INNING-
Crookston’s Isaiah Donarski led off the inning with a single, but the next three batters were retired. Roseau’s first two batters struck out before they put a nice two-out rally together. Abram Lundbohm walked ans tole second base, Anton Klint doubled to score a run. Paulson followed with a double to score another run and another run scored on an error for a 4-0 Roseau lead.
THIRD INNING –
Crookston’s Ethan Lanctot started the inning with a walk. He advanced to second on a wild pitch and scored on an error.
Roseau answered in the bottom of the inning when Austin Wiskow reached on an error, Keane Johnson singled to score a run, Eli Kvien followed with a single and a stolen base. After a strikeout, Lundbohm knocked in a run on a sacrifice before Klint singled in a run for a 7-1 lead.
FOURTH INNING-
Crookston answered in the fourth inning with a Cody Demarais single, Lanctot and Aiden Delage walked to load the bases. Hlucny singled to score two runs and Crookston trailed 7-3.
Roseau bounced back in the bottom of the inning as Trey Mertens reached on an error and scored on another error. Jayden Anderson tripled and scored on a wild pitch for a 9-3 lead.
FIFTH INNING-
Isaiah Donarski started off the inning with a single and moved to second base on an error. The next three batters were retired.
Roseau added two more runs in the bottom of the inning with a two-out rally. Klint walked, Paulson singled in a run. Trey Mertens reached on an error that allowed another run to score, and the Rams led 11-3.
