The Crookston Pirate Softball team had trouble keeping up with the Warroad Warriors on Tuesday afternoon as they lost by a score of 15-0 in four innings in Warroad.
FIRST INNING-
Crookston was retired in order in the top of the first inning on two strikeouts and a groundout.
Warroad began to get things going in the bottom of the inning, with a leadoff hit by pitch and a one-out single. Those two runners would score on a double to put the Warriors up 2-0, and a groundout would then score that run to give Warroad a 3-0 lead. A hit by pitch and walk would then put two runners on; one of which would score on a wild pitch, and the latter on a single, giving the Warriors a 5-0 lead before Ally Wagner would get a strikeout to end the inning.
SECOND INNING-
The Pirates got a one-out single from Madi Bruggeman, their only hit of the game, but she was left stranded at second base after back-to-back groundouts ended the frame.
Just like the first inning, Warroad led off the bottom of the second with a hit by pitch. Ally Wagner would then get the next two outs before a single drove in the lead runner, giving the Warriors a 6-0 lead. Wagner would then get a popout to Brynna Kopecky at third to end the inning.
THIRD INNING –
Crookston was retired in order in the top of the third on two strikeouts and a flyout.
The third inning would be the most explosive inning for the Warriors. An error, single and a walk would load the bases to start, but Kopecky made another great play at third base, throwing the lead runner out at the plate for the first out of the inning. The main damage would all occur with one out, though, as three runs would score on two separate errors, one run would score on a wild pitch, and then three more runs would score on a three-run home run to dead center field, putting the Warriors up 13-0. They would get one more run on a wild pitch, before a strikeout and groundout ended the inning with the Warriors up 14-0.
FOURTH INNING-
Crookston was retired in the third inning as well, on two groundouts and a popout.
In the bottom of the inning, the Warriors got three walks to load the bases, and then a wild pitch scored the fifteenth run of the game, giving Warroad a 15-0 win in game 1 via run rule.
