The Crookston Pirate Softball team couldn’t solve Roseau Ram pitcher Brooklyn Hulst as she pitched a no-hitter and the Rams cruised to a 15-0 victory in a Section 8AA game played in Crookston on a cold and windy afternoon. Playing teams that start with the letter “R” hasn’t been good for the Pirates, as they were no-hit in back-to-back games by Red Lake Falls and Roseau.
FIRST INNING-
The leadoff Ram batter, Brooklyn Hulst, reached on an error to start the game and advanced to second base on the same error. Ullman grounded out, and Hulst scored on the play for a 1-0 lead. Ketring tripled to score another run for a 2-0 lead.
Madi Bruggeman led off the bottom of the inning with a walk for Crookston, but the next three batters were retired.
SECOND INNING-
Roseau added on in the second inning when Washington walked, Magnusson grounded out to first base, but a run scored for a 3-0 lead. Kennedy followed with a single to knock in a run for a 4-0 lead, and the next three batters were retired.
Crookston was retired in 1-2-3 fashion.
THIRD INNING –
Roseau’s Ketring and Baumgartner singled to start the inning and a run scored. After an out, Washington walked. Two rounds scored on wild pitches and Magnusson walked before Kennedy singled to score a run for an 8-0 lead. After the second out of the inning, Hulst walked and a run scored on a passed ball for a 9-0 lead.
Crookston’s Shyuh Burnette laid down a beautiful bunt and hustled down the line and reached on an error, but the next three batters were retired.
FOURTH INNING-
Roseau’s Lundbohm bunted and reached, Washington walked as two more runs came into score on a Magnusson single for an 11-0 lead. After an out, Wensloff walked, and Hulst singled to knock in two more runs for a 14-0 lead. Another Ram scored on a passed ball, giving the team a 15-0 lead.
Crookston was retired in 1-2-3 fashion at the bottom of the inning, and Roseau won the game 15-0 in four innings.
Crookston drops to 1-7 on the year and will take on Nevis at 2:00 p.m. and East Polk at 4:30 on Tuesday in Fosston. Roseau improves to 10-1 on the year.
