The Sacred Heart Eagle Softball team’s Blake Brockpahler hammered three home runs and picked up two wins in the circle to lead her team to a 12-0 victory in five innings over West Marshall in the first round of the Section 8A Softball tournament, and a 13-4 win over Mahnomen/Waubun in the second round in games played in Waubun.
First Round –
FIRST INNING-
West Marshall’s Haley Olson walked with one out, and Olivia Winge singled to right field. The next two batters were retired, and the Fusion threat was over.
The first two Sacred Heart batters were retired before Blake Brockpahler hit a one-hopper off the right field fence for a stand up double. The next batter was retired.
SECOND INNING-
West Marshall was retired in 1-2-3 fashion.
Sacred Heart’s Izzy Cwikla walked with one out. She stole second base and a few pitches later she stole third base. After an out, Cwikla scored on an error for a 1-0 lead.
THIRD INNING –
West Marshall was retired in 1-2-3 fashion with a pop out, ground out and a strikeout.
Sacred Heart had a big bottom of the third inning when Leah Sundby led off with a bloop single, Gretta Effhauser reached on an error, and Blake Brockpahler clobbered a pitch over the right field fence for a three-run home run and a 4-0 lead. Jensen Stinar singled, Teagan Johnson walked and a run scored on a sacrifice fly and a Sophia Modeen single for a 6-0 lead.
FOURTH INNING-
West Marshall was retired in 1-2-3 fashion.
Sacred Heart’s Weiss led off with a single and a stolen base and scored on an Effhauser triple. Brockpahler followed with another blast for a two-run home run and a 9-0 lead. Stinar and Johnson singled and Cwikla walked to load the bases. Lily Mueller singled to score two runs for an 11-0 lead. Another run scored on a Weiss single for a 12-0 lead.
FIFTH INNING-
West Marshall’s first two batters were retired before Carol McLean was hit by a pitch. The nexxt batter hit a ground ball, but runner interference was called and the game was over as Sacred Heart won 12-0.

Second Round
FIRST INNING-
Sacred Heart was retired in 1-2-3 fashion.
The Thunderbirds’ leadoff batter, Emily Zima, singled up the middle, stole second base, advanced to third base on an error, and scored on another error for a 1-0 lead.
SECOND INNING-
Sacred Heart was retired in a 1-2-3 fashion with a groundout and two popouts.
Mahnomen/Waubun was retired in 1-2-3 fashion.
THIRD INNING-
Sacred Heart’s Leah Sundby singled to right field with one out and scored on an error to tie the game at 1-1.
Mahnomen/Waubin answered in the bottom of the inning when Emily Zima reached on an error, stole second base, and advanced to third on a wild pitch. Macey Jaskon singled to score a run to give the Thunderbirds a 2-1 lead.
FOURTH INNING-
Sacred got the bats going in the fourth inning. The inning started with a Stinar walk, Teagan Johnson reached on a fielder’s choice, and there were runners at first and second base. Leah Sundby singled to score a run, a run scored on a ground out, and another run scored on a Megan Weiss single for a 4-2 lead.
Mahnomen/Waubun answered with two runs in the bottom of the inning. A walk and a pair of singles knocked in two runs to tie the game at 4-4.
FIFTH INNING –
Sacred Heart’s Greta Effhauser led off the inning with a single, Jenson Stinar reached on a fielder’s choice and Izzy Cwikla singled to score a run for a 5-4 lead. Lilly Mueller followed with a single to score two runs for a 7-4 lead.
Mahnomen/Waubun was retired in 1-2-3 fashion.
SIXTH INNING-
Sacred Heart’s Weiss led off the inning with a single and a stolen base before Brockpahler hit a home run to score two runs for a 9-4 lead. Stinar singled and scored on a Teagan Johnson single for a 10-4 lead.
The first two Thunderbird batters were retired before a single. The next batter was retired.
SEVENTH INNING-
Sundby started the inning with her fourth hit of the game, Weiss singled before Effhauser singled to score a run for an 11-4 lead. Brockpahler singled to score two runs and the Eagles led 13-3.
Mahnomen/Waubun added a run in the bottom of the inning, but the Eagles shut them down the rest of the inning and won the game 13-4.
Coming into the day, Brockpahler had hit two homeruns, but she hit three today for five career homeruns in her career.
Sacred Heart improves to 13-7 on the year and will take on Red Lake Falls on Thursday in Red Lake Falls. The game can be heard on KROX Radio. Mahnomen/Waubun drops to 12-6 on the year.
