The Red Lake Falls Eagle Softball team beat the Badger/Greenbush-Middle River Gators 3-2 in the Section 8A Championship in Red Lake Falls.
Red Lake Falls will make its sixth trip to the state tournament. Red Lake Falls also made it to state in 2012, 2013, 2017, 2022, and 2024.
FIRST INNING
BGMR’s VonEnde walked with one out before the next two batters were retired.
RLF’s Shandi Nelson hit a line drive and reached on an error with one out before the next two batters struck out.
SECOND INNING
The first two BGMR batters struck out before M. Pulk walked. The next batter flew out.
Red Lake Falls’ Kayla Schafer walked with one out before the next two batters grounded out.
THIRD INNING
BGMR was retired in 1-2-3 fashion with two strikeouts and a groundout.
Red Lake Falls was also retired in 1-2-3 fashion with two strikeouts and one lineout.
FOURTH INNING
BGMR was retired in 1-2-3 fashion with two strikeouts and a lineout.
Red Lakes Falls was retired in 1-2-3 fashion with a lineout, a groundout, and a pop out.
FIFTH INNING
BGMR’s E. Pulk led off with a single before the next three batters were retired.
RLF’s Schafer was hit by a pitch and Cota reached on an error. The Eagles scored a run on a double steal for a 1-0 lead. Cota scored on a passed ball for a 2-0 lead. Layna Schindler walked and Nelson bunted and reached on an error that allowed a run to score for a 3-0 lead.
SIXTH INNING
BGMR’s Hanson led off with a double, and VonEnde walked. The next batter reached on a fielder’s choice before Dahl doubled to score two runs to bring the Gators within a 3-2 deficit. The next two batters were retired.
Red Lake Falls’ Schafer led off the inning with a walk. After an out, Hannah Seeger bunted and reached on an error. The next two batters were retired, and the inning was over.
SEVENTH INNING
BGMR needed a run to keep the game going, but they were retired in 1-2-3 fashion with a groundout, strikeout, and a groundout, and Red Lake Falls won 3-2, and the celebration began.
Red Lake Falls improves to 24-4 on the year and will play in the first round of the Minnesota State High School League Class A Softball tournament on Tuesday, June 2 at 5:30 p.m. at Caswell Park in Mankato. KROX Radio will have all the Eagle state tournament games on the radio from Mankato.
BGMR ends the season with a 16-11 record, with five losses to Red Lake Falls.
