Roseau sweeps Pirate Volleyball

The Roseau Rams beat the Crookston Pirate Volleyball team 3-0 in a Section 8AA match-up played in Roseau.
Was it bus legs, Roseau coming out strong, or Crookston starting slow?  Maybe a combination of all three in the first set as Roseau cruised to a 25-11 victory to take a 1-0 lead.  “We got into a funk on the serve receive and couldn’t get out of it,” said Pirate Coach Ashley Stopa. “Roseau has good servers and I think we got a little nervous and couldn’t make the play.”
The second set was an exciting one as Crookston took a four or five-point lead early in the set, but Roseau battled back to take the lead.  Crookston answered and took the lead before Roseau ended the set with a little run and came away with a 27-25 victory for a 2-0 lead.  “That was awesome,” said Coach Stopa. “It was back and forth and I was proud of the way the girls played.  It was exciting and good to see the girls play as hard and well as they did.”
Roseau used their momentum from the second set victory to cruise to a 25-11 win in the third set to win the match 3-0.  “The score didn’t indicate the fight that the girls had,” said Coach Stopa. “We got into another serve receive funk and couldn’t get out of it again.”
Even though Roseau swept the Pirates, Coach Stopa said she was proud of her team. “I was very proud of the girls and how hard they played,” said Stopa. “They fought hard, but we struggled with the serve receive tonight.”
Crookston falls to 2-6 on the year and will host Park Rapids on Tuesday.  Roseau improves to 8-4 on the year.
