Crookston Pirate Girls Swimming Falls In Dual at Park Rapids

The Crookston Pirates Girl’s swimming team fell 120-52 in a Section 8A dual against Park Rapids at the Park Rapids Community Center.

The Pirates relay teams both delivered strong performances with the 200-medley relay team of Thea Oman, Madison Hoiland, Elizabeth Erdman, Claire Oman combining for a 2:11.31 finish and win in the race. The 200-freestyle relay team of MacKenzie Aamoth, Elizabeth Erdman, Madison Hoiland, and Thea Oman took second place with a time of 1:55.39. Oman delivered a strong individual performance for the Pirates taking first place in the 200-IM with a 2:27.54 finish. Oman also won the 100-Breaststroke finishing in 1:17.72. “We’re still kind of playing around and seeing where she’s going to swim come to the end of the season,” explained Crookston head coach Marley Melbye. “Today she did the 200-IM and 100-breaststroke and cut time in both of those and had new personal bests and is looking very versatile this season.” Elizabeth Erdman took first in the 100-butterfly with a finish in 1:14.05. Madison Hoiland claimed second place in the 100-freestyle and third place in the 50-freestyle. “For (Madison) not to swim the 100-breaststroke is a little different, but she went out and swam really well and had season-bests in both of them,” said Melbye. MacKenzie Aamoth took third place in the 100-backstroke while Elizabeth Erdman took third in the 200-freestyle. “Park Rapids has twenty gals, which is a little down for them,” added Melbye. “We went and swam our races and the girls did well today. It’s fun to get a ‘W’, but we’re taking our small successes and getting our season bests or personal bests and that’s all we can ask for. With swimming being so long and how the season is set up all these meets don’t mean anything until November.”
The Pirates return to the pool next Tuesday when they travel to Warroad for a dual with Warroad/Roseau at 5:30 p.m.
