MORE MILESTONES
Sacred Heart’s Finley Horken recorded the 3,000th career assist on Saturday. The number continues to be a new school record each time she records an assist.
Fertile-Beltrami’s Bailey Iverson set the Falcon Volleyball program Career Assist record on Monday in a 3-1 victory over Red Lake County Central. Bailey broke Tanya (Erickson) Rasch’s record of 1,162 assists.
Roseau’s Aubrey Eeg recently recorded the 100th ace of her career.
Roseau’s Audrey Hayden recorded the 1000th assist of her career last week.
Goodridge/Grygla’s Brianna Severts recorded the 1,000th assist of her career on Tuesday.

The Red Lake Falls Lafayette Eagle Boys Hockey team is going to have two familiar faces on the bench as co-head coaches this year. Brad Kennett and Trevor Page will lead the program again and I don’t know if you could get two better guys to team up to lead the program, since both are previous head coaches and helping out the program this year! Two class-acts and Red Lake Falls is lucky to have both men leading the young men in Red Lake Falls!

Section 8AA Football has a battle going for the top seed, and it seems to get more interesting each week! Hawley is the top team at 4-0, and they have been playing some great football. I am not sure what happened in Week 1, but Hawley beat up on Pelican Rapids. Since then, the Vikings have been outstanding!!! Hawley has two huge wins over Pelican Rapids and a two-point win over Barnesville last week. Pelican Rapids had that stumble in week one, but has been outstanding since. Here is a recap of the rollercoaster start for Pelican Rapids. They lost to Hawley 42-6 to start the season. How do Coach Beachy and the Vikings respond? With a 25-6 victory over Barnesville, before beating up on Thief River Falls and Park Rapids. They have a big game with East Grand Forks this week, and I am thinking they should be able to finish the regular season without another loss if they beat EGF on Friday.
Everybody knows you don’t count Barnesville out either. It will be important to get the top seed because the semi-final game will be a lot more challenging for the second and third seed than the top seed!

Section 8A Football has five teams that are 3-1 or 4-0! Mahnomen/Waubun is still the top team until somebody beats them. All they do is reload and are tough again this year. But, Park Christian and Red Lake County are both undefeated. Red Lake County has a solid line and some pretty good athletes and has been dominant so far. Park Christian has a bunch of athletes and is averaging a bunch of points, starting 4-0. Polk County West is a team to look out for, as they lost the season opener but have been rolling in the last three games and are 3-1. They have a solid line, some pretty darn good athletes and will be a tough team to beat.

Is there a better 9-Player football section this year than Section 8? The section is loaded with four of the best teams in the state and one of the best programs in the state!!!
Kittson County Central has survived a pretty impressive first four games against some very good programs and is 4-0. They are the favorite coming into the season after winning the section last year. They had some pretty big losses to graduation, but returned most of the team, and they have picked up where they left off last year. They are well coached, have great athletes, and are ranked #2 in the state for a VERY GOOD reason. The next three teams are Win-E-Mac (4-0), BGMR (3-1), and Goodridge/Grygla (3-1). Win-E-Mac has been impressive in its first four games. It has been pretty impressive what they have done so far, and I don’t see that changing in the final four games of the regular season. BGMR had KCC on the ropes, but KCC held on to win by two in their meeting, so that puts the Gators as one of the top teams in the state as well! Goodridge/Grygla is Goodridge/Grygla! They are tough again this year and 3-1 so far. They have talent, are well-coached, and could easily be in the section championship.
The semi-finals will be outstanding, and the section championship will be a dandy. I can’t wait for the playoffs, and Section 8 9-Player will be outstanding, no matter who is playing in it.
Section 8 9-Player Standings
| Team | Section | Overall | QRF Value | QRF Rank |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Kittson County Central | 3-0 | 4-0 | 32.8 | 1 |
| Win-E-Mac | 1-0 | 4-0 | 30.2 | 3 |
| Badger/Greenbush-MR | 1-1 | 3-1 | 22.3 | 12 |
| Goodridge/Grygla | 1-1 | 3-1 | 21.0 | 14 |
| Warren-Alvarado-Oslo | 1-1 | 2-2 | 12.3 | 37 |
| Stephen-Argyle | 0-2 | 0-4 | 4.4 | 45 |

| Lake of the Woods | 0-1 | 0-4 | 1.2 | 57 |

The Section 6 9-Player Football standings are a logjam, and that doesn’t come as a surprise to anyone. It was a three-way tie for the top spot in the preseason coaches poll. There have only been two section games so far (which is why I don’t like the district scheduling).
Fosston is my top team right now, but Blackduck, Clearbrook-Gonvick are tied for second in my eyes! Five-time defending section champion Fertile-Beltrami is going through some growing pains after losing so much talent over the last couple of years. But nobody will want to play them in the playoffs. The standings are below.
Section 6 9-Player Standings
| Team | Section | Overall | QRF Value | QRF Rank |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Fosston | 1-0 | 3-1 | 21.0 | 14 |
| Kelliher/Northome | 0-0 | 3-1 | 20.6 | 17 |
| Blackduck | 0-0 | 3-1 | 19.3 | 21 |
| Clearbrook-Gonvick | 1-0 | 2-2 | 14.4 | 30 |
| Fertile-Beltrami | 0-0 | 2-2 | 14.0 | 31 |
| NCE/U-H | 0-2 | 1-3 | 7.4 | 40 |

Section 8AAA has the Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton Rebels off to another great start and they are the only 8AAA team without a loss halfway through the regular-season. DGF has been impressive in its first four games and hasn’t had a close game yet. The final three games of the regular season will be a good test with East Grand Forks, Barnesville, and Hawley. Perham and East Grand Forks are fighting for the second seed, but a Perham win over EGF gives them a leg up. But Thief River Falls proved last year that it doesn’t matter what your seed is, you can still make a run.
Section 8AAA Standings
| Team | Section | Overall | QRF Value | QRF Rank |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton | 3-0 | 4-0 | 61.9 | 8 |
| Perham | 2-1 | 3-1 | 47.1 | 15 |
| East Grand Forks | 1-1 | 3-1 | 38.4 | 26 |

| Park Rapids | 0-3 | 0-4 | 8.2 | 50 |

Section 8A Volleyball will have a new seeding process this year, and I love it!!!! The section will seed 1-22!!! No sub-sections, and hopefully the best teams will be playing in the semi-finals and championship!
This is what we know at this time! Sacred Heart is the top team, hands down. There is no argument from anybody in the section on that statement! They have beaten all the other top teams in the section pretty handily, and it seems like they keep getting better each week. They have nine seniors and mix in great underclassmen, and have things going pretty good right now. Are they unbeatable? No. Climax-Fisher, Fertile-Beltrami, Fosston, and others could give them a run for their money in the section tournament and it will be fun to see some of the matchups in the playoffs.
Who is the second-best team in the section??? That is a great question and might depend on which night it is. Climax-Fisher continues to get better each week and has some pretty electric players, and is 12-4 even with one of their top players, Lucy Paulsrud, out with an injury!!! Fosston has been impressive this year and seems to find ways to win the close sets and matches. Fertile-Beltrami has some big-time players and they are another one that will be a tough team in the playoffs.
Goodridge/Grygla, Red Lake Falls, Bagley, Kittson County Central, Lake of the Woods and many others will make the section tournament a lot of fun and there is no shortage of outstanding volleyball players in NW Minnesota.

Section 8AA Volleyball is the most wide-open it has ever been in my recent memory. You have Thief River Falls, Perham, Barnesville, Wadena-Deer Creek, Hawley, East Grand Forks, Roseau, and DGF all capable of making a run at tournament time and have a legit chance at going to state! The 8AA section tournament is going to be one of the more fun tournaments in recent years. Who is the best team in the section?? There isn’t a best team. You have a handful of teams that have beaten each other in close matches and it will all depend on who is playing well in late October.

JOKES
A six year old comes crying to his Mother because his little sister pulled his hair.
“Don’t be angry,” the Mother says, “Your little sister doesn’t realize that pulling hair hurts.”
A short while later, there’s more crying, and the Mother goes to investigate.
This time the sister is bawling and her brother says…
“Now she knows.”

A woman was walking along the beach when she stumbled upon a genie’s lamp. She picked it up and rubbed it. Low-and-behold a genie appeared. The amazed woman asked if she got three wishes.
The Genie said, “Nope. Due to inflation, constant downsizing, low wages in third-world countries and fierce global competition, I can only grant you one wish. So, what’ll it be?”
The woman didn’t hesitate. She said, “I want peace in the Middle East. See this map? I want these countries to stop fighting with each other.”
The Genie looked at the map and exclaimed, “Gadzooks, lady! These countries have been at war for thousands of years. I’m good, but not THAT good! I don’t think it can be done. Make another wish.”
The woman thought for a minute. She said, “Well, I’ve been trying to find the right husband. You know, one that’s considerate and fun, likes to cook and helps with the housecleaning, has a great sense of humor and gets along with my family, doesn’t watch sports all the time and is faithful. That’s what I wish for. A good mate.”
The Genie let out a long sigh and said, “Let me see that map again.”

A man strikes up a conversation with a woman at a bar. The conversation is below-
Lady: Do you drink?
Man: Yes
Lady: How much a day?
Man: three 6 packs
Lady: How much per 6 pack
Man: about $10.00
Lady: And how long have you been drinking?
Man: 15 years
Lady: So 1 6 pack cost $10.00 and you have 3 packs a day which puts your spending each month at $900. In one year, it would be $10,800 correct?
Man: Correct
Lady: If in 1 year you spend $10,800 not accounting for inflation, the past 15 years puts your spending at $162,000 correct?
Man: Correct
Lady: Do you know that if you hadn’t drank, that money could have been put in a step-up interest savings account and after accounting for compound interest for the past 15 years, you could have now bought a Ferrari?
Man: Do you drink?
Lady: No
Man: Where’s your (bleeping) Ferrari then?

Little Tim was in the garden filling in a hole when his neighbor peered over the fence.
Interested in what the cheeky-faced youngster was up to, he politely asked, “What are you up to there, Tim?”
“My goldfish died,” replied Tim tearfully, without looking up, “and I’ve just buried him.”
The neighbor was concerned, “That’s an awfully big hole for a goldfish, isn’t it?”
Tim patted down the last heap of earth then replied, “That’s because he’s inside your stupid cat.”
