The Crookston Pirates Girls’ soccer team were led by Brooklyn Waldal with two penalty kill goals as the Pirates beat the Mesabi East Giants 2-0 at KROX Radio Stadium on Friday night.
FIRST HALF –
The first half of this game did not consist of much offense. Through the first 25 minutes of the half, there were no shots on goal. Then, the Pirates began to apply more pressure, and after their third corner kick of the day, a handball in the box call gave Crookston a penalty kick. Brooklyn Waldal hit it hard, and though Giants goalkeeper Anna Fierst got a piece of it, it trickled in the back of the net to give the Pirates a 1-0 lead. The Pirates got one more shot on goal from Waldal in the half, but Fierst made the stop on that one. Overall, the Pirate defense kept the Giants from getting a shot on goal, but their offense couldn’t muster anything else, keeping the Pirates ahead 1-0 at the break.
