Abi Bruley – Volleyball
The KROX Athlete of the Week is Crookston Pirate Volleyball’s Abi Bruley. The Junior is averaging 10 kills per match the past two weeks and leads the team in kills on the season.
Abi is in her third year on varsity and has been a huge reason why the Pirates have won three of their last five matches and are playing some of their best volleyball. Abi has a powerful swing, but what separates her from other hitters is how quickly she can get the hit off and the precision of her attacks.
She is always smiling and is a great leader on the team, committed to getting better and leading by example. Abi leads the team in kills with 104 on the season and 49 of those in the last five matches. She also has seven blocks and 30 digs on the season.
Pirate Volleyball Coach Katie Morgan has nothing but good things to say about Bruley. “One thing that stands out about Abi is her determination to find opportunities to prove herself and earn her time on the court. We have had to adjust our line-ups in some matches, moving her from the left side to the right side at times, and she has continued to embrace the changes and give her all for the team,” said Morgan. “She is an aggressive player who isn’t afraid to compete and continues to show that she is willing to work hard and do what it takes to help the team succeed. She is very coachable, always willing to learn and improve, and brings a positive attitude to the gym. Beyond her abilities on the court, she is kind, supportive, and a great role model for our younger athletes. She shows that hard work, determination, and a team-first attitude go a long way, and I am proud of the effort and commitment she brings to our program!”
Abi is on the student council, in the Leo Club, an honor student, in Club Volleyball, and in the Church Choir. She also won the Little Miss Crookston pageant in 2022.
