The driver of the 2019 Honda CRV has died as a result of this motor vehicle crash.  The deceased is identified as 71-year-old Ruth Berntston of Manvel, North Dakota.  It is unknown if Bertston was wearing her seatbelt at the time of the crash.  The driver of the striking vehicle was Jonah Klindt, 39 years old, of Buxton, ND.  No charges have been filed, nor are any expected to be.  No other information is being released at this time.

ORIGINAL RELEASE

On Wednesday, September 16, at about 12:22 p.m., officers of the Grand Forks Police Department responded to an injury accident at S. 31st St. & 32nd Ave. S. Upon arrival preliminary investigation indicated that a 2019 Ford pickup was traveling west on 32nd Avenue South in the inside westbound lane pulling a trailer. A 2019 Honda CRV was turning left from 32nd Avenue South onto South 31st Street just south of Columbia Mall. The front of the pickup hit the front of the Honda causing extensive damage and disabling both vehicles.

The driver of the pickup was a 39-year-old Buxton resident and had no apparent injury.  The driver of the Honda, an adult female had serious injuries and was transported to Altru Hospital by ambulance. No citations were issued at this time and it appeared the Honda failed to yield the right of way when turning left at an intersection.

The names of the drivers are being held pending notification to relatives.
