ADA SHUTS OUT CROOKSTON REDS

The Crookston Reds offense failed to produce timely hitting as the Ada A’s remained perfect in League play with an 8-0 win in a Red River Amateur Baseball League game played at Jim Karn Field in Crookston.

Ada converted the winning run when their first batter of the game, Brett Fetting walked, before scoring on a two-out rbi single hit by Seth Schmitz giving the A’s a 1-0 lead. Ada added three more runs in the top of the third inning with a walk followed by a pair of errors and a base hit giving the visitors a 4-0 lead. “We made four errors on the books, but a couple mental errors as well,” said Reds’ player/manager Matt Morin. “You allow a guy to take an extra base here or there and those types of things can be frustrating for a pitcher. Lars pitched well, you just give a team four or five outs in an inning and it’s tough to beat them.” Crookston’s first base runner to reach scoring position was Bailey Schmitz with his double in the fourth inning, but he was stranded at third base following a pick-off at first base to end the Reds’ threat. Ada added three more runs in the fifth inning following another Crookston error and a two-rbi double hit by Dillon Lundin to close out the three-run inning with the A’s lead up to 7-0. Ada added one more run in the seventh inning, which proved more than enough for starting pitcher Blake Fetting who tossed 7 innings of scoreless baseball while allowing only six hits and striking out seven. “I’m kind of surprised we weren’t (able to catch up to him),” explained Morin, “we’ve seen him a couple of times and hit him, we just seemed to come out flat tonight and he was keeping us off balance for some reason.” Josh Casavan closed out the game in relief with two-scoreless frames along with four strikeouts to keep Ada’s perfect League season intact with the 8-0 win. “We didn’t have any timely hits, we just couldn’t seem to get the big hit we needed and what hurt us the most was that we didn’t get our leadoff batters on enough and when you dig yourself that hole it’s hard to put things together,” summarized Morin.
The Reds fall to 12-12 overall and 5-4 in league games and will return to the diamond for a non-League game on Thursday night against the Moorhead Mudcats at Jim Karn Field in Crookston with first pitch scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
Ada improves to 9-0 in League play and 11-2 overall.
