Alvin H. Vakoch, 88, rural Ada, MN passed away on Saturday, January 23, 2021, at Sanford Broadway Medical Center in Fargo, ND.
He was born on November 30, 1932, in Thief River Falls, MN. On September 3, 1955, he and Stella Severtson were married in St. Olaf Lutheran Church, east of Twin Valley, MN.
Alvin was a friend to many. He lived his faith and values through his work, and he was committed to serving his community. From the time he was a young man, he worked tirelessly to develop and maintain his farm, for which he was recognized at the statewide level early in his career when he was named an Outstanding Young Farmer, awarded by the Minnesota Jaycees.
He was dedicated to township government, from his local Green Meadow township through many years as a statewide Director of the Minnesota Association of Townships. During his time in office, Alvin often represented farmers throughout the state at the annual conference of the National Association of Towns and Townships (NATaT) in Washington, DC.
For many years, he served as Treasurer of Faith United Church, Ada, MN, where he took pride in maintaining accurate financial records. He could always be counted on to step in as an usher on Sunday morning services.
He and Stella enjoyed spending time with longstanding friends in Ada and the surrounding area, and they enjoyed traveling to square dances throughout the region with fellow members of the Ada Valley Squares, where they both served as presidents.
Alvin is survived by his wife Stella of Ada, MN; his brother Joe, of Fargo, ND; 3 sons, Mitch (Ranae) of Gully, MN, Dan of Lewiston, ID, and Doug (Julie Bayless) of Hayward, CA; 3 grandchildren, Andy (Britany) and Sarah (Justin Acord) of Lewiston, ID, and Sydney of Gully, MN; 3 great-grandchildren, Atlee, Clancy, and Swayze of Lewiston, ID; and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his sister, Jana Kaldahl.
Graveside Service: 11:00 AM, Tuesday, February 2, 2021, at the Ada Municipal Cemetery, Ada, MN, following all of the Minnesota and CDC COVID-19 social distancing guidelines. All must wear a mask to attend.
A memorial service for relatives and the community is planned for a later date when it is safe to gather.
