American Crystal Sugar donates $3,000 to the Crookston High School to complete the greenhouse project

American Crystal Sugar is proud to present the Crookston School District with a $3,000 check to help complete their greenhouse project.

Industrial Tech teacher Travis Olver stated that in June of 2024, the Crookston School District received a grant from the Minnesota Department of Agriculture to build a greenhouse on the Crookston High School property.
In June of 2025, they started to build the greenhouse, and over the summer, we completed the foundation. In September of 2025, they created a class at the High School to build the greenhouse. 22 students have helped build the greenhouse.
Some of the costs increased between the time the grant was awarded and when construction began. To get the project over the hump and finish it, they needed a little financial help. “This is a tremendous project for our school and for our students,” said Oliver. “The hope would be to foster interest in gardening, ag research, agriculture, horticulture and arboriculture. This is a tremendous opportunity for our school, our students, and our community.”

The funds will be used to complete the exterior of the building by purchasing the needed materials. including siding, vents, fans, polycarbonate sheets, and a window. Some of it also could go into the interior for shelving, cabinets (built by the students), and partitions.

American Crystal is proud to support the Crookston School District in completing its greenhouse.
