ATHLETE OF THE WEEK – Shaun Nelson (March 13, 2019)

The KROX Radio/Drafts Sports Bar and Grill athlete of the week this week is Crookston Pirate Boys Basketball senior student manager Shaun Nelson.  Shaun has been a manager for three years after playing basketball in the youth levels.  He is a dependable, hard-working, and organized kid and he was a great student manager for the program over the past three years.  He had everything ready for practice and games and one perfect example of Shaun’s knowledge and preparation was the playoff game at East Grand Forks.  One of the Pirates had a cut and was bleeding and Shaun ran down from the top of the stands, where he was taking stats and dug into the medical kit and had tape by the time the Pirate got to the bench.  He was always prepared and ready to make sure the coaches and the players were good to go.  He made everybody’s life easier. “Shaun did a super job as manager of the Pirate Boys Basketball Team.  He played through the eighth grade then took a year off and came back as manager his sophomore year,” said Pirate Boys Basketball Coach Greg Garmen.  “Nellie as the kids call him, is liked by all and he did just about everything that there is to be done, filming games, equipment management, stats, and Ipad work. I am very thankful that Nellie decided to manage for us these last three years.  We will miss him next year.”
Shaun is a member of the Pirate Boys Track team where he will compete in the 100,200, 400 and long jump this spring.  He is also a member of the Crookston High School Leo Club and was belted Mr. CHS a couple of weeks ago.
