On Saturday, February 15 at approximately 5:30 AM the Polk County Sheriff’s Office responded in unison with the Winger Fire Department and Polk County EMS to a fire at a residence in Winger Township. The fire was contained in a garage that was not attached to the home.
The family was present during the time of the fire, however, there were no injuries sustained. The fire caused substantial damage to the garage and had spread to a nearby tree when the Fire Department had arrived and subsequently extinguished the flames. There was no damage to the family’s home.
The fire was believed to have originated from an electric meat smoker that was running overnight.
The Minnesota State Fire Marshal’s Office was notified of the fire.
