Climax-Fisher Girl’s Basketball falls to RLCC in Saturday matinee

The Climax-Fisher Knights girl’s basketball team hung with the Mustangs of Red Lake County Central, but the Mustangs pulled away in the 2nd half en route to a 72-50 win over the Knights at the Red Lake County Central Gymnasium in Oklee.

FIRST HALF –
As the first half began, the Knights got the first 3 of the game off of a Brooklyn Hoffman bank shot. From there, the Mustangs began to find their groove, as Aubrey Halverson began to take over. She gathered 7 points and 5 rebounds in the first 6 minutes, helping the Mustangs get a 17-6 lead. However, after this is when the Knights played their best basketball of the game. All three Korynta sisters (Kadence, Kinley and Lexie) played significant minutes and led the Knights on a 13-2 run to tie the game at 19. After this, both teams exchanged buckets back and forth to tie the game at 23. From there, RLCC brought off the bench their secret weapon of this game: sophomore Natalee Hendrickson. She was lights out from beyond the arch all game, and she hit 3 of those shots in the final 5 minutes of the half. This was the catalyst of a 15-5 run to end the half by the Mustangs, and they took a 38-28 lead at the end of the half.

SECOND HALF –
The pace was fast, but with a lot of fouls in the first half. In the second half, fouls were a lot less plentiful, but scoring was as well to start the half. This time, the Mustangs turned to their post players of McKaelyn Frizzle and Quinn Graves, and they capitalized on the size advantage over the Knights. Lucy Paulsrud continued her great game, scoring the final 8 of her 17 points in the half to lead the Knights’ scoring attack. However, the scoring was minimal for Climax-Fisher, as they only scored 22 in the entire half. The Mustangs continued to pull away, with two more 3-pointers from Natalee Hendrickson and lockdown defense, forcing many turnovers. All of this culminated in the Mustangs pulling away for a 22-point win, taking this one 72-50.

Climax-Fisher falls to 7-16 on the year, while Red Lake County Central improves to 10-8 on the season.
