Beverly A. Slevin – Obit

Beverly A. Slevin, 73, passed away Wednesday, January 26, 2022, in her home in Rural Mentor, MN. Beverly Ann Bakken was born on January 5, 1949, at Bethesda Hospital in Crookston, MN, the daughter of Arnold and Bernice Bakken. She was baptized on February 3, 1949, at Hitterdal Lutheran Church. After graduating from Mentor Public School in 1967, she attended Concordia College. Bev graduated in 1971 with a BA in Home Economics. She went on to teach junior and senior high in Cloquet and Hutchinson.

Beverly married Michael Slevin in Cloquet, MN on August 10, 1975.  Together they raised six children. Bev had a passion for ministry that echoed throughout her life. She was involved in Sunday school, release time, and vacation Bible school worked as the church secretary and custodian and served as a Synodically Authorized Minister at several congregations. As a true follower of Christ, Bev emulated Jesus’ ability to teach others with words and stories that resonated on a personal level. She seamlessly used her gifts of organization, creativity, and music to deliver a biblical message that could be understood by all.

Bev is survived by her husband, Michael, of 46 years; 6 children: Joshua Slevin of Milwaukee, WI, Gabriel Slevin of Denver, CO, Tomina Slevin of Duluth, MN, Kaia (Dan) Chamberlain of Duluth, MN, Caleb (Mel) Slevin of Mora, MN, Jordan (Alayna) Slevin of Grand Forks, ND; sister: Marlene (Curt) Block of Mentor, MN, 4 grandchildren: Vesper and Avi Chamberlain, and Kylie and Clint Bull Calf; as well as nieces, a nephew and cousins. She is preceded in death by her parents, Arne and Bernice Bakken.

Celebration of Life: 2:00 PM Saturday, February 5, 2022, at Maple Lake Lutheran Church, rural Fertile, MN.

Visitation:  One hour before the service at the church.

Interment: Hitterdal Lutheran Cemetery, Maple Bay, MN.

Memorials preferred to Maple Lake Lutheran Church Sunday School. Masks are recommended but not required for attending the service.
