CHLOE TORGERSON’S 4 GOALS LEADS EGF TO BIG WIN OVER PIRATE GIRLS SOCCER

The Crookston Pirate Girl’s Soccer team lost to a very talented East Grand Forks team 15-0 in a Section 8A match played on the Crookston High School Soccer Field.

Chloe Torgerson opened the early scoring netting a shot 6:24 into the game after receiving an assist from Chelsey Afshari. Torgerson scored her second goal at 10:18 from Brynn Hillman. Hillman scored her own goal 12:32 into the match off a pass from Kara Ellis. Ellis provided her second assist 1:10 later finding Torgerson to complete her hattrick giving East Grand Forks a 4-0 lead. Kaylie Bies took a pass from Ellie McDonald and scored 18:55 into the match before Chloe Torgerson scored her fourth goal giving the Green Wave a 6-0 advantage. Bella Sands scored 1:25 later from Ellie McDonald giving East Grand Forks a 7-0 lead. Ellie McDonald scored her own goal at 25:25 before Brynn Hillman closed out the first-half scoring in the 32nd minute giving East Grand Forks a 9-0 halftime lead. “I was really excited to see what today brought,” explained Crookston head coach Sarah Reese coming of the Pirates’ first win. “Our first ten minutes, we had good passing. We were doing give-and-goes. That created opportunities for us. The start of play held in the middle third of the field, but then they got a couple of quick goals on us and we just sort of sat back and let them control the field and the play.”

Sydney Sayler scored 6:25 into the second half set up by Brooklyn Sayler boosting the visitor’s lead to 10-0. Brooklyn Sayler scored off a feed from Chelsey Afshari before Riley Regorrah gave the Green Wave one dozen goals. Grace Kronlund netted back to back goals to make it 14-0. Kara Ellis took a pass from Brynn Hillman and found the net to close out East Grand Forks’ 15-0 win in 71:10 into the match. “We talked about at halftime if you give it your all for eighty minutes if you lose than it is what it is,” explained Reese. “You can only give what you can give, but what we struggled with today was we weren’t proud of our performance, so we talked about at halftime needing a restart. We needed a restart mentally. This game is a good learning opportunity about how you need to compete for all eighty minutes. Everyone on the team needs to bring their ‘A’ game, and we need to work together as a team. It was a good learning opportunity today about what we don’t want to do in the future.”

Crookston falls to 1-6 on the year. The Pirates return to the pitch on Saturday to play in the Melrose Classic playing Cold Spring Rocori at 10 A.M. and Melrose at 1 P.M. The Green Wave improve to 4-0-1.
